Musical Theater and Education

Is there a program out there that lets you do Musical Theater and Education? I'd love to teach Musical Theater!

Point Park offers a BA in Elementary Education with an Emphasis on Theater Arts for those interested in teaching theater. For info go to pointpark.edu click on the academic bar on the left and then choose academic catalog. Download or view the school of arts and science section for the course description.

Emerson offers a theater ed degree as well

Lots of colleges offer theatre ed. I know ASU's theatre department is devoted to that focus, for example. However, I've never seen one that specializes in MT. You might have to take voice and dance separately.

You could always do what I am doing... I am going to Boston Conservatory, but I am going to take a teacher certification class for a year after I graduate. That way I can teach theatre since I will have the BFA from BoCo. :)

I'm pretty sure Wagner, Staten Island, NY has an education concentration for theatre, if not MT directly. We visited and found their reps very responsive in person, by phone, and email. I'm sure if you contact them you'll get a direct answer from someone. Good luck in your search.

I don't know if you are still looking for schools that allow you to do both, but you can definately do both at the Shenandoah Conservatory, if you want to know more about it, just IM me

Does anyone know much about the theater education program at Emerson?

Westminster Choir College has a program where you can earn a BM in VP or MT (I believe) as well as your Master's in Music Education in 5 years. Very music-based MT program.

Anyone with a BFA in acting or music or theatre could get a teachers certificate or masters in teaching.
