Musiker Summer Discovery UCSB

Just enrolled in the Summer Discovery UCSB Program and was wondering what the strictness of the program was alike... I know that UCSB is one of the best party schools so do students who attend this program often go to parties and get in trouble for drinking/drugs/etc? PLEASE ANSWER I WANT TO KNOW.

I am also going to UCSB for Summer Discovery. I have friends that have done this program before and they say it’s a lot of fun. I am from Austin, TX but I have a lot of friends in Santa Barbara. One of my close friends say that the spot we are staying in is the best in town for parties. Even though the program forbids us from entering any of the fraternity or sorority houses, I’m sure there will still be “fun activities.” Anyways, what courses are you taking?

I lived with a cohort of people who did that program (I was doing a different program), and I know that not many people actually went to outside parties where there might have been drugs and alcohol. UCSB, imo, is quite tame and almost “normal” over the summer. Furthermore, Isla Vista, the college town that is next to UCSB, is kind of a sketchy place (not much to do either). We were also prohibited from going to DP (the street where all the college parties are) - they also have program counselors stationed in the town, who would presumably catch you if you tried.

The most that ever happened as far as I can tell was that some people brought alcohol into their dorm rooms.

There’s still tons to do - the beach is a 5 minute walk, downtown UCSB is 20 minutes by (free) bus, the gym is free and open, there are lots of organized activities.

Sorry for the bump, but what did OP find out when he went? What was it like? What were the kids like? I’m going this year
