My 2nd journey with USC...

As some of you might remember, I applied to USC when I was a senior in high school last year. My optimistic self, along with dozens of counselors, teachers, and others who repeatedly told me that I was a "shoe-in" for USC were rudely awakened upon receiving my rejection letter. I also appealed the desicion, but was again rejected. This rejection came during a very hard time in my life, and totally ruined my outlook upon my future. The last thing I had ever thought about came true: I had to attend the local CC.

Fast forward to December of 2005....I reapplied as a freshman in college, trying to earn a spot in the Fall 2006 class of sophomores. Everything looked good, and I guess it still does.

I just got home a few minutes ago, only to see my parents sort of flushed. I asked what was wrong, and they showed me an unopened USC letter. Worst part was, it was dejavu just like last year....getting the small letter.

I walked into my room and closed my door, got a letter opener and began to cut open the envelope. My hands began to literally shake a bit as all the images of me attending USC started to come back to me. I have quite a few friends who go there, and this past year, all I've been imagining and praying for is that one defining moment where I can be standing on the grass overlooking the campus library, hanging with a few friends, finally proud of myself.

Anyway, I pulled out the letter, already empty on hope and dreams I had created...but alas, it wasn't only one piece of paper. As I glanced at the wording on one side of the letter, I say "spring grades." Okay, I don't know how to explain the amount of relief I felt at that moment (almost 20 minutes ago.)

Well, I guess I can breathe a little easier, right? I mean, I've heard that if they were planning on rejecting me, I wouldn't even get this letter in the first place. Here's some extra information...

Fall Classes/Grades:

Anthropology 102 - A
Sociology 101- A
English 101- A
Art 101- A
Geography 101- A
Geography 111- A
Total Credits: 16

Winter Class/Grade:

Music 120- A
Total Credits- 3

Spring Classes/Grades:

Anthropology 101- B so far...improving
English 102- A
Economics 102- A/B Borderline
Computer Science/IS 101- A
Total Credits- 14

Total sum of credits after June: 33

As some of you might have noticed, I'm done with the prerequisites (was already done after winter semester) and am currently finishing the 2nd semester of english that is required. I was told that I finished my math requirement with AP Calculus in high school, and that I didn't need to worry about it anymore.

What do you guys think? Chances? Gut feelings? Any psychics on the board?

I got into the college's Dean List a month ago, and also was sent an inviation to Alpha Gamma Sigma, a "state honor society for high achieving students." I'm about to enroll in it this coming week, and I'm considering sending a packet with my fall/winter transcripts, currents classes being taken, a copy of the Dean's List certificate, along with a page explaining any additional EC's I've managed to stack up after December. I'm also worried about this semester's classes...the two that are close to becoming B's....will that have a big effect on the decision if I've had all A's and maybe one B?

Any comments will greatly be appreciated. I am praying night and day that, hopefully, USC will open its doors to me. That would truly be a dream come true.

You right really well even though its on a forum lol. There is a chance that you may get in, but do you really want to get in by sophomore year. Or is transferring in as a junior too late?

Transferring as a junior would obviously be my last resort, but my goal has been to get into USC as early as possible. Since I was rejected in high school, its really important to me that it works out this year. True, going to a community college has turned out to be better than expected, but I see it merely as a stepping stone in my life, and people don't usually stay too long on one stone. :)

If they send you letters, then that means they are thinking of you. I applied to USC as a freshman this year and I got a TON of mail from USC. Eventually, I got accepted. It worked similarly with Carnegie Mellon where I got a lot of letters until they accepted me. Only situation where it didn't work was with Northwestern...they emailed me a lot of messages and sent me a ton of mail...but they ended up waitlisting me....but I got out of the waitlist! So...long story short, if they have any sort of contact with you (by mail or email), then yes, it does mean they are thinking of you and that you have a chance of getting accepted. Don't depend on it though...did you consider applying elsewhere? Good luck with everything and let us know what happens! When will you find out?

I haven't really considered elsewhere since USC is still my number 1 choice. Besides, there aren't many other schools in my area that offer one-year transfers, and I am planning to commute to college, at least for now.

My spring session ends mid-june, which is when I can probably request grades from my teachers. USC wants my grades by June 30th, otherwise they will simply base their decision off of what they have at the moment.

Chris, I wish you the absolute best of luck. Your passion awes me and I think USC would be lucky to have you.

Hang in there. Your grades look great. You're sort of USC's Rudy.

If you keep getting these good grades, you will very likely get into USC one way or another. However, I'm beginning to worry that after all the long struggle and wanting to the go there so badly that USC will turn out to a disappointment for you. USC is a fine school, but it is after all still just a college and not some slice of heaven on earth.

So keep trying and keep your grades up, but also keep your mind and your eyes open. Good luck!

(PS: The term is "shoo-in" not "shoe-in")

Thanks for the kind words. Yea i'll be waiting to see what happens, and will be sending them an update very soon.

Hey everyone, this is my first post.
I applied for USC's Marshall School of Business by the Feb 1st deadline for transfers.
I was just wondering what the time frame is to either get an acceptance or rejection letter.
I called USC and they keep telling me that they will start mailing out decisions after June 1st, but I keep hearing different dates from students who have previously applied.
Anyone know the timeframe when they should get back to you on a decision on admission?
Thanks guys, and good luck to everyone.

jchon: First, you may have better luck posting in a thread of your own. You tagged your question onto someone else's two year old thread. Only someone who reads through the whole thread will see that your question is more recent.

Second, if you've already called the school and they told you that they'd begin mailing after June 1, nothing else really matters. You shouldn't expect anything before that date. If you happen to hear earlier, then great, but thinking that you might, when they've told you that you won't, will only make the waiting process tougher. Good luck :)

I can't really judge but Good Luck with everything! I read your posts about USC from the year before and I almost cried. USC is my dream school and I really don't know what I'd do if I was rejected. Your resume was amazing and I don't know why they didn't accept you. Good Luck!
