My absolute top choice...looks like I don't have interest in it

My dream school is BC. My sister went there, graduated premed in 2017, and goes to UPenn for med. I’m applying RD because I heard the EA pool would be ultra-competitive (BC doesn’t have ED unfortunately). I go to The Governor’s Academy, a private 4-year institution in MA. My grades aren’t stellar, my highest GPA in high school was a 3.87 weighted that I earned first quarter senior year, lowest was a 3.34 I received sophomore year but I’ve always had somewhat of a rigorous schedule, I’m in 3 AP’s and one honors currently. I have a 1410 super-scored SAT. BC doesn’t do interviews unfortunately, and I’ve never formally visited the school. I thought I didn’t need to because I saw so much of the campus during visits to see my sister and only just recently started viewing tours as less of a “hey, check out our school and see if you like it!” thing and more of a “EXPRESS INTEREST IN OUR SCHOOL NOW” thing. I don’t have any financial aid, I work a paid job over the summer as well as an accounting internship, and play three sports during the school year, though none are varsity. I’ve never had a smidgen of disciplinary history, and have only missed two classes during 4 years of high school.

The problem is that I’ve never formally went on a tour or applied EA. I want to let Boston College know that they’re my top choice, but I just don’t know how. What are my chances, and how should I let them know?

Also, we don’t do class rank at my high school. Most private schools don’t.

Congrats on the hard work putting you in a good position to compete at great schools.

BC doesn’t track interest but it can’t hurt to look for yourself.

There’s really no such thing as a dream school.

There are good things and bad about everywhere.

College is chance for you to grow and learn. To choose the early path in life.

Apply broadly to match and done safety schools you know you can get into UMass Amherst, Fairfield, UVM types. Also look at Holy Cross, Villanova and Fordham.

Then think of the schools that meet your budget and interests.

If BC works out it great. If it’s another school you can chart your own path and add another sticker to the BC and Penn ones on the family car. Once you start school anywhere, make friends and get involved it will become your new dream school.

On the chances side of things one never knows. But being local doesn’t help and the average student profile has a 1458 sat 33 act and I believe the avg gpa is near 3.7/3.8 unweighted range. Use that as a guide only. So students beloe and above lower.

Best of luck and chin up. You have a lot work ahead of you wherever you go

Actually, many public high schools don’t rank either. That being said, AdComs are able to interpolate a rank based on the School Profile. Ask your GC to see yours (or look online to see if the district makes it public).

What is your cum GPA?

They won’t care. You increase your chances thru the essays and show them what you bring to the table, not the other way around.

Interest shows best in your app and supp, how you show your match. Show, not just tell. It means, as they read, they can see you there, doing well in classes, knowing the opportunities, exploring, getting engaged in activities, being the type they want who will become an Eagle and enjoy the years. If you know the college well enough, you can show that.

Having the Interest isn’t taking a tour, when you clearly know the college from your sister. BC is one of those colleges people are nutty loyal to, throughout their lives.
