My appeal letter to UCLA inside..

woah, an update! Congrats on graduating - looks like you did QUITE well at Irvine. :)

Thanks, maybe UCI treated me really well. Thing is I was really motivated, and still am. When someone really puts their mind to something, they can accomplish it with the right attitude.

I guess ucla didnt see that but like others have said, they will have missed me :stuck_out_tongue: jk lol

damn… i had alot of those vibrating feelings in my brain as i read your update. Congratulations to you on your accomplishments at UCI. Im glad everything worked out for you and good luck with your career!

Hey Vyruz just wondering, how did you get started in your job hunt in Irvine. I’m just finishing up my 1st year here as an Econ major with a 3.8 gpa ,but i really hadn’t lined up an internship this summer. I have summer school to try and finish the management minor on time as well.

Is there time during the fall? and when did you start looking for a job

What steps did you take and any advice? Does gpa matter that much?

Thanks

^^ hey peter,

Fall recruiting is very important. If you dont have an internship (im assuming your a transfer so you will be a senior next year) you HAVE to be VERY active in fall recruiting. Go to EVERY information session, apply to all the jobs you like. GPA is very important. Get your Resume critiqued at the Career Center for free. Talk to a counselor with Take 10

I know it hard coming to school in suits, going to every info session at night, and being active at the career fair…

but you must do it to get yourself known with the recruiters. You have to network at every given possible moment so when they are looking at Resumes… they can remember your name and at least give you an interview.

Hope this helps!

what an inspiring story Vyruz Reaper!!

You just lit a fire under my a** haha. I wish you luck on all your future endeavours.

I’m so happy that I came across this post. Vyruz Reaper, I’m in a very similar situation to what you dealt with back in 2009. I am a transfer student applying to several universities, including my dream school, UCLA. I also had to drop out of school for a few years, except I had to drop out in order to work to support myself. I tried to attend part-time whenever I could, but trying to juggle full-time work or multiple jobs with school often led to many W’s or B’s on my transcript. I finally returned to school full-time as a student in the Honors Transfer Program in spring 2011. I have had straight A’s ever since (spring, summer, fall, and winter 2012 semesters), and have finally pulled my GPA up to a 3.59. I’m now 26 years old.

I haven’t heard from any school except CSULB, and am terrified that my early academic record will be held against me and that I will be denied from UCLA or USC. I did TAP with UCLA, but it’s not a guarantee. I also TAG’d with UCI. I’ve been contemplating about how I would react if I was denied from UCLA and ended up going to UCI, and at times I have felt pretty down about it to be honest. However, your post has given me a lot of hope that I could be happy at UCI. I know many people who have graduated from UCLA and still can’t find work a couple of years later, so it’s wonderful that you were able to secure a position straight out of UCI. A big congrats and well wishes for your future! Thank you for sharing your story!
