One of my recommenders submitted his LOR to all my schools except two for some reason. Now when I go look at the status, both say that the application was forwarded to the department. Is it too late for him to submit the LOR now?

I doubt it, but you may want to send it directly to the department. Can you call or email the department to find out where the letter should be sent?

If I were you and I couldn’t get in touch with anyone in person, I would politely ask the writer to both submit the letter electronically (if still possible) and to send a hard copy directly to the address of the department, which you could find online. Bring him an SASE with that address on it: just try to cover your bases a little bit. Hopefully, since he’s the one submitting it late, he’ll be willing to send along two copies.

This is an interesting question to post. But, to calm your anxiety. Most programs are pretty flexible and understand the LOR situation. But you won’t know until you call them. I am going through the same thing right now, I just keep emailing the programs and calling when necessary. Most programs are fairly flexible.

If it were me, I wouldn’t sweat it. Most of the recommendations go straight to the department. The application, however, goes to the University’s general admission and then to the department. (Hence the forwarding).

If worst comes to worst, call the school. However, they will be looking out for it, and chances are you will not be penalized for your recommender’s tardiness.

Most of my applications say its ok to submit them before the LOR’s are in. However, I’m having a problem with one of them. I forgot my id number for one of the schools so I had them e-mail it to me. It seems they e-mailed me a new one and now I have two applications going and some of my recommenders are on one and some are on the other! I’m not sure what I should do about this since it’s supposed to be due today (I thought everything was fine until it looked like one of my recommendations disappeared, and I e-mailed tech support). I may submit both since that will add up to one complete application and then call them to try and sort it out tomorrow. God these online application systems can be a nightmare!
