My award letter ?

I signed up for only spring semester, and only took out grants, the pell and tap.

My award letter says i have taken out 1 direct sub loan totaling 3500 dollars
and another direct unsub loan for 2000 dollars.
The pell and tap are also there but that's not the issue.

I never signed up for these and for the amount that my tuition costs i do not require them, why are they there and should i call?

I may be confused but does an award letter only list eligibility or finalized results?

Award letter does not mean they will be applied, but you should definitely call the school’s financial aid office to make sure.

I assume grants/scholarships will take priority over loans.

Award letters just list eligibility. You “can” take out those loans - you would need to accept them, complete entrance counseling, and sign a master promissory note to actually have them pay to your account. It’s great that you won’t have to borrow!

For some schools:

On the award letter, cross out any financial aid that you don’t want or need, mark “DECLINE”. Sign the letter and return it back to school.

For some schools:

You can decline your financial aid online.

I’ll email them to make sure, thank you everyone for your posts and if anyone else would like to post “please do”.

I’ll have an extra 5k in grant money unspent, im happy.

check your college website my son’s college requires they accept or decline online
