I mean, really: doesn't the EA's influx of applications this year reflect the hype of Charlie Weis's team? Has the University done anything different than in year's past? I'll have you know that before Virginia Tech went to the national championship game a few years back, you could get in with a 3.2. However, they rejected 4.0s later that year, after the football success.

I guess what I'm trying to ask here is this: Since it appears the Notre Dame football team was overrated to the greatest extent of the word, will ND's application numbers return to some sense of normalcy for the Regular Decision window?

Who knows? Applications at all colleges are up everywhere and will continue to be up because of record numbers of this generation going to college. Does football help draw apps? Probably so, but I personally think that apps are up everywhere and will continue to be for some time to come.

Given that the same thing happened with Willingham and the Gator Bowl (and we did better this season than that season) I highly doubt that RD won't be bigger than last year, though I do not expect to see as large of an increase as EA. I think most educated football fans recognize that ND is on the right track, especially those who follow recruiting or watched the US Army All-American game yesterday. Because of that, I don't see one game having a big impact on applications.

Secondly, the application deadline was BEFORE the bowl game so those who were going to apply have already applied...the only question is if it affects matriculation which I highly doubt.

It really is weird how football affects admissions, I don't understand it!

IdRatherBeSATing , Im assuming you are thinking that a whole lot of bandwangoners will jump on the ND train and apply to ND... right?

Actually that is the one thing I hate the most...... when nd haters think that every ND fan is a fair-weather fan...... and its just not true

anyway

I think that there will be those people who apply, yet I dont think it will be substantial enough to make a recordable difference.... I mean Notre Dame wasn’t UNBELIEVABLE this year..... there were good..... (3 losses is good imo)....

So, I agree with AL applications are up everywhere, but at ND I don’t think that a 10-3 season will warrant thousands and thousands of more apps

I don't think that "every ND fan is a fair-weather fan," just that a lot of college applicants are. While it is true that colleges nationwide are enjoying increased number of applications, the influx that Notre Dame had this year compared to last year is enormous! There is simply no other explanation that I know of other than a heading-in-the-right-direction (?) football team. (Don't get me started on how 3 losses isn't really a good season when you have Notre Dame's schedule.)

ya i hear you

umm.... experts say that application nationwide will continue to rise until 2010.. and it was start to even out

btw i said that a 3 loss season is a good season....but its not N.C. quality
