Hey there members of CC, I am a junior at a recognized international private school in the middle east, which is known for its high standards of academics.
I am currently a junior here and here are my stats/qualities:

GPA:3.822 after 10th grade, bound to go up because of 2 APs this year and 3/4 the next year
Class Rank: 10 of 116
Very rigorous course load

SAT1: taking it in December, expecting a 2000 first time, possible a 2100/2150 second time
SAT2's: taking math2 at the end of this year, expecting a 750+, will probably take physics in October of senior year(next year), and chemistry end of next year.. expecting a 730+ on them
APs: Stats and Econ this year (expecting a 5 on both), Cal A/B (5), Physics B (4/5), Chemistry (5)
I might also take AP Literature but that will depend on your recommendations on whether or not I will really need it.

ECs and others:
MUN: 9, 10, 11 (will also take it next year and will probably be vice president/secretary general)
National cricket captain (traveled to a few places and hosted a tournament ourselves)
Basketball: 9, 10, 11(Captain) (will also do it next year)
Softball (school doesn't offer real baseball for some reason):10 (MIP and vice captain), 11, next year as well
NHS: 11 (will do it next year as well)
Helped out at a Pakistani orphanage
Community clean-up in Toronto
Tutoring: 9, 11 (next year as well)
INJAZ (business organizations competition with other schools):10, 11 (next year as well)
Forensics and Debate: 11 and (next year as well)

More stuff:
I want to do a major in mathematics/statistics and economics.
I am a Pakistani/Canadian living in the Middle East, and I am young for my grade (don't know if that will affect the decision in any way, since the class of '10 is mostly born in 1992, while i was born in 1993).

Please tell me my chances for ED/RD at Duke and possibly any other big universities.

I don't really understand the purpose of chances threads when you haven't taken the SAT. With a 2150, I would think it would be a fairly large reach. You should come back when you have actual scores and updated GPA etc.

Umm why does 2150 make Duke a "fairly large reach?" Take it from somebody who's already been through the process, abdul, you can get into Duke with a 2150. Just keep studying for the SAT/ACT.

I was just reading this and Madboy121, you give me hope...I got a 2140 and Duke is my top choice! by the way, this was on another thread, but how long do you think the "why duke"/why engineering essay should be? I think mine is about 650 to 700 words and now I'm starting to think its too long but I wanted to include all the things I love about BME and Duke. Since you've already been through this, I thought you would know!! thanks

Madboy, I'm not saying he wouldn't get in with a 2150. I would just think that with a 2150, which is below average, it would be a reach. I'm not saying this because of his SATs solely, just saying that with a 2150 it would be a pretty big reach. Also, doesn't it hurt to be international? ED would help if you ultimately decide it's your number one.

YankeesGiants91, the fact that you're calling it a "pretty big" reach is what I don't understand. I heard that the average SAT score (on the old scale) is roughly 1440-1450, which makes abdul's score of 2150 good enough for Duke. Could is be better? Absolutely. There are people they accept with 2400's all of the time. On the other hand, there are also people they reject with SAT scores of 2400, which brings me back to my original point which is that scores are only one component of your application. Just for context, I got in with a 2090 SAT score ED (but I also had a 33 on the ACT...so I'm not sure what that's worth...my point is you won't get flat out rejected for having a 2150 SAT).

Prepre, two things: 1) Can you please start another thread if you're going to ask questions. It's just common courtesy not to hijack someone else's thread with their own CC question. It'd be a lot better for you to start one up too b/c more people will be able to read your question and give feedback. 2) Quick answer though, my "Why Duke" essay was probably 500 words.

Madboy121, Let me clarify myself. I'm not saying it's a reach because of his SAT scores solely. I'm saying if he gets a 2150, combined with his other stats and all, I would think it's a pretty big reach. If he applies ED, it won't be as big. Also, I'm saying this based on the fact that isn't it harder to get in as an international. In your case, they would have taken the 33 ACT.
