I'm applying to Phillips Exeter Academy, and I want to know if I even have a chance of getting accepted, because I know it's really really hard to get in.
My grades: All honors classes, 1 AP class and straight A's. weighted GPA: 4.3. My current classes and grades:
English 2 Honors: 100%
Precalculus Honors: 98%
World History Honors: 97%
Physics I Honors: 98%
AP Microeconomics: 98%

Extracurriculars: Swimming (2 years, Most Improved Swimmer, Competed in regionals), Tutoring (significant improvement in grades of the students I tutor.) Piano (6 years, member of National Federation of Music Clubs, received 'Superior' scores on both my pieces at the Florida Junior Musical Festival Competition.)

I haven't received my PSAT score yet but I expect it to be around 180. What are my chances at being accepted?

All help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I think all the experts will tell you that you have a shot, but there is never any way of knowing who Exeter might want/need in a given class. Is that the only school you are applying to?

It is hard to tell from the info you have given us. What grade are you applying for? Do you need FA? Your stats look very good. But so many other things can come into play. What other schools are you applying to?

I am applying for the 11th grade and I need major FA. I'm reapplying to Choate (they didn't give me FA last year) and I'm applying for the first time to Exeter.

Exeter doesn't care whether a student needs FA. If you need it, They'll give it to you. They get over a billion bucks to spend on students (only a small portion is for FA though). In other words, the admissions people are oblivious of whether you need FA or not. Applying for FA in exter doesn't lower your chances, according to dean of admission's email i got.

I know that exeter has an excellent financial aid program for accepted students. My question is, do my stats show that I have a chance of being accepted? I know Exeter is a highly competitive school, and I'll apply anyway, but I want to know how I stack up against other applicants.

iHerculez-
Exeter is not need-blind. Chances of admission are much greater if one does not need FA. They do have plenty of money to fund those who do need lots of FA who have a hook or great stats, but the game is skewed in favor of those who can pay.

Will a student’s chances of admission be affected by his or her application as a "free" candidate?
No. In fact, no financial aid candidate is at any disadvantage in the admissions process.

Boarding School Review lists their endowment as $1000 million. There is no need to fear that needing FA will affect your chances of admission. The greater challenge is standing out in an exceptional group of applicants.

Exeter, Andover and St. Pauls as well as many other top prep schools are need blind now. As is the case at most top colleges the prep schools will make it affordable (if not free) for your son or daughter to attend. See Periwinkles link. St. Pauls is free if your household income is below $65,000 and Exeters threshold is $75,000.
At the risk of sounding rude, I believe I speak for most when I say please do not post on matters you apparently have not done your homework/research on.These kids deserve accurate information and when people post nonsense it does them a disservice. Baseball.... argh.

Blueliner, I think you slammed the door pretty hard there on baseballmom. I agree, accurate information is the goal, but Exeter only announced full need blind admissions a few weeks (?) ago, and Andover just a few days. One of the nice things about a board like this is that with multiple people posting in real time we can correct whatever errors crop up quickly, and I hope civilly.

Point taken Checkwriter.I agree with you. The problem is baseballmom didn't just put forth bad information. She had to throw in her opinion which reeked of jealousy. It made me think she had just guzzled 10 gallons of haterade. :)
It is ok to have any opinion you want and post your spin here. Simply try checking your facts. BTW PEA and St. Paul's have been need blind for over two years now. PEA just recently decided to give people a concrete threshold that was easy to understand. St. Paul's set a $65,000 free ceiling last year.
I appreciate you putting me in check, checkwriter. Thanks.

Blueliner, thanks for taking my comment in the spirit offered. We all get a little heated sometimes. BTW, my daughter applied to both Andover and Exeter last year, was accepted to both and is (sorry) attending Andover. Last year Exeters admissions materials explicitly stated that applicants for FA may be in a more competitive situation than non-FA applicants. So I think the situation at PEA is perhaps more need blind now than it was last year.

Ok, I stand corrected. I was not aware that Exeter had recently changed their policy and is explicitly stating that FA applicants are at no disadvantage.

But concluding that my comments indicate that I'm full of jealousy and "haterade"??? That's a big stretch and undeserved and offensive.

Blueliner- geez, a litte harsh don't you think? Especially when Exeter only VERY recently changed their policy from EXACTLY what baseballmom stated.
iherc- admissions people - Dean's included - sometimes tell people incorrct information, so unless it is in writing, we all question things. Yes, in THIS case, it is in writing on the web, but that is why baseballmom questioned it.

By the way, the WRITTEN materials I have from St. Pauls states $60,000 NOT $65,000 - should I jump all over you?
