(forgot the rest) disappointing, but I am taking again and should be able to get at least a 29 if not a 30.

AP: United States

part of BETA club freshman year, DECA sophmore and junior and Key Club starting junior through senior (including Vice President of Key Club senior year), Mock Trial junior and Senior year (possibly captain of mock trial senior year, not sure yet), Principal's Council junior and senior year, and Debate team senior year.

Part of the National Honors Society, National Honor Roll, the National Society of High School Scholars

worked part time at local business over the summer, and volunteer at church frequently.

Factors in your favor: You seem to have taken a very rigorous high school curriculum, with lots of AP and honors courses, something Reed likes. Your GPA is also great. The involvement with debate and mock trial could be very interesting to Reed as well, showing an ability to think quickly on your feet and express yourself well. Your class rank is good, and being from South Carolina might give you a slight boost in terms of adding geographic diversity.

Factors working against you: Your test scores may be just a tad low for Reed, but not entirely out of range. Will you be submitting your AP scores or Subject Tests to Reed?

Factors to consider: Reed is need-aware, so if you need substantial financial aid, that may be a tipping factor. This past year was one of Reed's most selective, and their admissions rate fell into the 30% range, so no one can say for sure what your chances will be, especially as we do not have your transcript, application, essays, or recommendations in front of us. Still, I'd say it's worth a shot. Be sure your college list also includes safer bets, however.

I don't need financial aid at all, so I am sure that will help. I am going to take the sat and act at least one more time, and I am preparing better this time. I am confident my essays will be fantastic and recommendations will be pretty good.

and I got an 11 out of 12 on the essay. do you think that will help my admission? I can write for substance but the grammatical part of my essays always seem to lack the proper rules.

If you don't need financial aid, and Reed is your first choice, I would apply early decision. ACT is probably in the lower 50% for Reed but I think if you're writing score is an 11 that makes up for the 28..they want people who can write well.
