My chances at UC

<p>I am a Mexican (came here 4 years ago), who is planning to apply to UCB, UCI, UCLA, UCSD and Stanford</p>

<p>I took AP Spanish Language ( 5 ) without the class as a sophomore</p>

<p>As a junior I took AP Calculus ( 4 )
AP Physics B ( 3 )
AP Spanish Literature ( 4 ) :(
As a senior I am taking: AP Physics C (self study)
AP Calculus BC (self study)
AP Chemistry (bad teacher)
AP English (bad teacher)</p>

<p>I have taken 6/8 AP classes that my school offers plus 2 that I am self studying.
I have been in sports: soccer 1 yr. and tennis 4 yrs.
I am president of the AP club, and ACA(demic)DEC(athlon) club.
I have been in lotz of clubs, like Junior/Senior class, Interact/Rotary club, AP club, Computer Skills Club and I have taken classes at my community college (3 classes: Computer Science 101, Computer Science 208 and Chemistry 2A).
My SAT score is 1130 Math 670 Verbal 460
My SAT 2 is Spanish 790, Math IC 710, Math 2C 560(sophomore), Physics 650 and Writing 500. (Retaking SAT 2 November, getting a 750+ Math2C almost for sure)
MY GPA is ~4.3 ...rank 5/400 and improving.
I have tutored about 150 hrs. </p>

<p>Think I can get into the college of engineering of any of these?? UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB, Stanford (high reach??)</p>

<p>UCI is the only match I see. The others are all going to be reaches. Unfortunately, your SAT verbal score is going to make the most selective UC's difficult in general. But then you never know --- if you have extenuating circumstances (i.e. come from an economically disadvantaged family), you may get in. Unfortunately, the UC's will not consider your URM status. You should also consider a few private schools where your URM status WILL be considered - try Santa Clara U, Loyola Marymount, perhaps USC all have good engineering programs. I'd also suggest you think about Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona. SLO would be a realistic reach, Pomona a safety.
Stanford is probably not realistic even as a high reach. Of course, I don't have a crystal ball - hope you prove me wrong on all counts! Best of luck.</p>

<p>"--- if you have extenuating circumstances " well I came here 4 yrs ago...does that count?? Thats why my verbal score is so low...;( I studied but I didnt know so many words....
Also, I was taught in a public school, I am part of the ELC program and I live in California, so all of them are In-state.
Thanks for your output.</p>

<p>please? does it counts if I am going for engineering and nothing related to english??</p>

<p>marko:</p>

<p>UCLA: Reach
UCB: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI: Match
Stanford: Super Reach</p>
