I am a Mexican (came here 4 years ago), who is planning to apply to UCB, UCI, UCLA, UCSD

I took AP Spanish Language ( 5 ) without the class as a sophomore

As a junior I took
AP Calculus ( 4 )
AP Physics B ( 3 )
AP Spanish Literature ( 4 )
As a senior
I am taking: AP Physics C (self study)
AP Calculus BC (self study)
AP Chemistry
AP English

I have taken 6/8 AP classes that my school offers plus 2 that I am self studying. That makes it 8/8...lol...(taken all of the AP my school offers)!!
I have been in sports: soccer 1 yr. and tennis 4 yrs.
I am president of the AP club, and ACADEC club.
I have been in lots of clubs, like Junior/Senior class, Interact/Rotary club, AP club, Chess Club, Computer Skills Club and I have taken classes at my community college (3 classes: Computer Science 101, Computer Science 208 and Chemistry 2A).
My SAT score is 1130 Math 670 Verbal 460 killer/ I dont know english very well
My SAT 2 is Spanish 790, Math IC 710, Math 2C 560(sophomore), Physics 650 and Writing 500. (Retaking SAT 2 November, getting a 750+ Math2C almost for sure)
MY GPA is ~4.3 ...rank 5/400 and improving.
I have tutored students for Community Service (about 150 hrs).
I am in-state and ELC. In my school about 30% of the students go to a university directly from High School it sucks.

Think I can get into the college of engineering of any of these?? UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCB? My goal is UCB....but...any of the others its ok for me. What do you guys think?

Yeah, they do. I've said it once, I'll say it again. It's just under a different name and mor subtle. I got into UCLA last year on a 3.33 GPA, no extracurriculars, and I was in Geometry at the time. I'm Mexican American. All this is quite mediocre, not to mention the fact that it was probably the hardest year in UCLA history to get in due to budget cuts. If you include something about it in your essay they'll take it into heavy account.

If UCLA didn't use some sort of Affirmative Action, 15% of the school wouldn't be hispanic, because, quite frankly, there aren't that many qualified hispanics. In fact, the school would be about 80% white and Asian.

You people just got the wool pulled over your eyes, UCLA still does use AA, except it now includes it in its admissions factors under the name of "Disadvantages." Being that marko is "disadvantaged" I don't see how he could rejected by any of the UCs. It's just not feasible. The same goes for UCSD and UCSB, although I don't have evidence since I didn't bother applying to the mediocre UCs. But anecdotal evidence from others is just as good!

Thanks tsunami....I am studying like crazy for my SAT2's :Physics and Math 2c...and a little for Writing.....
My sister got into Berkeley with 5 AP's failed 3 (Calculus(2), English (2)and Bio (2)) but passed Spanish...with 5 Both...(lit and lang) but she got into Architecture...

does someone else have something to say about my chances??

"I'd say getting a 4 on spanish literature when you're a native speaker is pretty ****ty"

Yeah??? Do you know what literature is?? (Literature is analyzing poems, reading books, doing essays and knowing all of the literary terms) IS WAY DIFFERENT THAN LANGUAGE...AND PEOPLE WHO GET A 5 = 10%.....and what did you get in your English Literature?? or Language? I could say that you got a 5 RIGHT?? and no its NOT different....if its your native language I expect...AND YOU SPEAK IT EVERYDAY!!! BOY, THAT IS EASY....BUT WAIT....PEOPLE STILL GET ONES IN THE AP ENGLISH LITERATURE?????WTF??

AP that you took and got WHAT!!!! A 4?? 4 IN AP English Language.....PLEASE AND YOU ARE TELLING ME......

you're one of the few people who is a native speaker, you have a huge advantage over everyone. If I was being curved against mexicans on an English Literature test I'm sure I would rape them.

I took AP French Language and AP English Language last year. I got 3s on both. The AP languages are drastically different, because the English is for native English speakers, and the French for people learning it. I assume it is the same with Spanish.

I am also a Mexican-American (both parents from Mexico) I took the AP Spanish Test and got a 5 also only by taking one year of refresher Spanish.

The AP Spanish Lit test is harder and is not easy for anyone mind you if you are a Spanish speaker. why? because it uses lit analysis in a different language its like the Spanish equivalent of American HS English Classes (ie criticisms, metaphors, analytical essays, etc.) They uses works by well respected authors like Pablo Neurada, Marquez, Anaya, etc. Trying analyzing those pieces in a differnet language (ie they are in Spanish) and using those specific English based critical skills on them. its harder than appears

btw i never took spanish lit bc my school never offered it

Thanks Seven Nights!!! You can know the language but that doesnt mean you know how to write, analyze poems or any critical skills.
BTW is Pablo Neruda.
