Please give me advice on how to give myself a better shot of getting into UCLA! Thank you!

First, this forum is for the class of '12; you should post in the general forum next time. Now on to your question.

It looks like you're doing a lot to make up for the lack of APs in your school, and UCLA will certainly take into account the fact that those classes are not available to you. Contintue volunteering, identify a strong example of your leadership abilities for use in your personal statement, and work hard your last year with as tough a schedule as you can take to show UCLA that you can make the most of the opportunities your school does have. Finally, I would retake either the SAT or ACT to increase your chances. Focus on the one you can do better on. It can't hurt your chances! Good luck!

your chances depend on which school you want to get into (nursing, theater, etc.) for a ucla college, i would say you have a fair chance of getting in.
start writing your personal statement and getting your letter of recs early, save yourself a lot of stress.
keep going strong senior year and don't fail anything second semester. good luck!

oh, and you have a great chance of getting in. i dont think higher SAT would matter, your SAT is already 60 points above their average (my friend got an 1820 last year and got into UCLA).

the admissions process is pretty random....on any given day, someone with stats just like yours might be rejected based on different factors like the essay. but your application will definetely be considered, that's for sure.

I'm also interested in applying to UCLA. chance me please

No offense but some people worry too much. The chance of getting in to UCLA varies by student. I didn’t do a lot of volunteering, but i still did some; i came from a disadvantaged school in South Central L.A with crappy teachers, classes, etc.; Magnet students had priority for AP’s, I didn’t get AP classes till I was a senior (I had two AP classes); AND my SAT I score was at around 1300, I didn’t take the ACT, didn’t pass the darn AP exams, and got a 520 in the math 2 section, 470 in physics, 410 in chemistry, 380 in history, and 730 in the Spanish section; I graduated amongst the top 10 at my school and I still managed to get in.

Compared to other students, academically, I might be average or below average, but I was still able to get in. So just understand that there is no one specific standard that defines what makes a student worthy of a certain college. Colleges also take in consideration your personal statement–Yes it’s nerve wrecking, but just chill :)

My son has a 34/36 on the ACTs, 780 Subject SAT Bio, 760 Subject SAT Chem. But, his GPA is 3.0. He goes to a top private school in Manhattan/NYC. I add this fact, because, I was told that the weighted GPA can be higher as a result. He has taken tough courses (e.g. Advanced Physics, Adv Math, Adv Computer Sci). Was told that schools would look at these favorably. Not sure though.
