my chances at UMD, UVA...

I would really like to go to the University of Maryland or the University of Virginia. (My #1 is UNC Chapel Hill, but as of now that's highly unlikely...)
Please tell me what you think of my chances at these schools, and add a few suggestions too! :-) Here are my stats...

please let me know what you think! I know I'm only a junior but I'm already stressin' (lol).

Oh, sorry I forgot to add that my courses have been the most difficult available with the exception of one available AP this year that I opted not to take. (My school doesn't offer AP's until junior year and I took all the advanced classes they offer)

Anyone.... :-/ lol

since your instate, u have a shot for uva. your sat is low. try to raise your uw gpa, mine was about 3.62 and i was deferred this year. raise your math score. its the easiest to do. mine was 680 math, 620 verbal. other than that, i think your ok.

crichessill i would have to disagree with you, i dont think your in, maybe if your a minority, but from your verbal score your not. (but the slight chance is always there) your GPA is low for even an in state. I am guessing atleast get it up to the 3.8 overall GPA and with atleast 4 APs senior year (four APs is not that hard) About the SAT they need to go up atleast 130 points if you live in northern VA, and 80 points if you live anywhere else in VA. (raise your math its more easy than verbal) UNC Chapel hill seems like a big reach, so why not apply ED to UVA,start early and make sure you spend time and effort in your essays.

Applying ED helps you out in your application, It helped me out ED to UVA CAS

I am from pretty far south in VA..country lol. I took the PSAT for the new SAT and like I said above I did better on that because all the verbal (minus the analogies which arent on there either :-)) helped me out. I got a 1800 on the new PSAT (out of 2400) and when I took the old one sophomore year I got a 1080, so I did a lot better on the real one. So, I'm hoping to get that up and I think I have a good shot, as I'm going to take a prep class this summer so I can take the new one twice, once this year once senior year. Do you think if I get the SAT up to like 1900/1950ish I could get into UVA or UMD even with the 3.6? (although I am hoping to bring that up also by the end of this year).

since your from the south, i think your sat is ok to be a bit low... somewhere in 1200's in old sat standards

Ok, i really dont know about the NEW SATS (Thank God I am the last class that has to take them) but since the NSATS are out of 2400, so 1800/2400 = X/1600 is like getting a 1200 on the old SATS, so i am think somewhere around a 1900 would be just right for a Southern VA. (Again i really dont know that much about the new sats i would look and compare the PERCENTILES). GPA varies from school to school, your best bet would be to compare yourself to students getting in from your school.

Good luck

"since your from the south, i think your sat is ok to be a bit low... somewhere in 1200's in old sat standards"

LOWEST i heard for southern VA was a 1230 but GPA was a 4.2

gpa for 4.2 uw?

anything above 4.0 is weighted

well 3.6 i uw (no APs were offered before junior year) I don't know, I mean I know my chances are slim I'm going to apply to a lot of less-competitive colleges as well (Mary Washington, JMU, Bridgewater) these are just my first two choices. Well UVA is first choice, I don;t know if I'd like UMD up north :-/ I dont know well thanks everyone for replying so far...if you got any other comments/suggestions/constructive criticism please post it, I'm finding this very helpful

really? I thought it went up to 4.33

depends on the school system (some have strange ways of calculating GPA) most have:
A = 4.0
B+ = 3.5
B = 3.0
C+ = 2.5 and so on...
And then add an .5 for AP (some even have add a 1 for AP)

Of course some school dont have a 4.0 scale but rather a 5.0 scale
