My chances at Wash U??

Hey guys, totally new to this site, my first post! I'm a member of a lot of other forums everywhere though, so I'm not new to the forum scene...

Just wanted to know what you guys think of my chances of getting in to Wash U are...it's by far my first choice; I didn't apply ED because my folks want to see where I get a lot of money from, but I did call the admissions office specifically to tell them that Wash U was my first pick...so here are my stats!

GPA: unweighted 94, weighted is around a 98?
Rank: 21 out of 430

Freshman year: basic all honors courses
Sophomore year: Continued all honors, took AP biology, got a 5 on AP
Junior Year: All honors, including AP chem (5), AP US history (3), AP BC calc (4 on BC part, 5 on AB subsection) and AP english (5)
Senior Year: All honors but also AP Physics, AP music theory, Muti-Variable calculus, and AP english Literature

1550 SAT, 800 math, 750 verbal; 760 math IIC, 730 Writing, 720 Chem...kind of disappointing scores.

As for extra-curriculars...this is where I'm loaded.

Played piano for 12 years, I'm pretty darned good if I do say so myself. For anyone who knows what it is, I got a NYSSMA score of 99 on a lvl 6 solo...one point off because I messed up on a scale of all things...

Voice for 2 years, BUT I was the number 2 pick out of Bass 1s for my section of NY in making the All-State choir...

I play the church organ, I work in various local churches playing services, weddings, and funerals.

Varsity Cross country for 4 years, MVP the last two years, Captain this year
Varsity Spring Track for 3 years, will be captain this year
Varsity Swimming for 3 years, made States in 03 on a relay
Contacted the track coach, he seems pretty psyched to have me

Captain of the Math team, we're going to sectionals this year

Volunteered at the hospital near where I live for 80 hours this summer, had a blast too!

Teacher recommendations I'm going to assume were good...not brilliant, but good.

My essays are definitely good, I spent a lot of time on those, had a lot of people read em and make comments.

what else...? Other than running/swimming awards and the pretty standard academic awards, there's not much else; What do you guys think my chances are for: A. Getting in, and B. Scholarships and C. Wash U's med program?

Thanks guys! PS. Great site!

Well, I would say you have a pretty good chance of getting in. I have no clue why your saying your scores aren't that great. People would kill for those! Seem a little ****y about your ECs, don't you...Anyway, you seem like your a great candidate. The only thing I could see going against you is that Wash U might assume your just applying to them as a safety for the Ivies. I heard somewhere that if they think your not serious about them, even if you have stellar stats, they'll reject you. But you look fine I guess, and either way, you can't change anything about it now so what I'm saying means jack. Anyway, good luck. I here from Wash U this wed if I'm in or not.

I agree with Sir Webber. Basically, although I don't fault anyone for doing so, I really don't see the purpose in asking other kids what they think your chances are. The way to find out is to ask kids that have gotten in for their stats, etc, and that will give you the best idea. It seems to us like you'll get in but in general we don't know anymore than you do. Good luck and I hope to see you there!

your pretty much in i think, good luck though!

thanks for all your responses guys; makes me feel a little better...As for sirwebber, yes, I am rather proud of my collection of EC's, but I certainly made sure not to sound ****y when I wrote about them in my apps...and as for not being serious about Wash U, I did mention that I called the admissions office and straight out told them that Wash U was my first choice...

Yeah, I understand that you told them that. I'm just wondering if right after you called them, they ran to your file, if they even had one, and put a note concerning that. Anyways, anyone could call and say something like that just to help them be admitted, so I don't know. I doubt they will reject you if you have stellar stats, but I know it helps if you really show some interest, ie go visit. Have you visited, or done an interview?

I visited, and I had an interview while I was there that went very well...

And the admissions counselor did say she'd put a note in my file! lol. Ah well; I just hope I get in. Even better I hope I get into their med program and/or get a scholarship, lol. Good luck to everyone else out there applying!!
