and what does 97/100 mean as a GPA? Usually GPA's are on a 4 point system (unweighted) or 5 point system (weighted).

Thanks

im in a class of 250 and im around the top 25%.
my unweighted gpa is 3.5 and my weighted is 3.9
im took very vigarous classes and im in the honors society

thanks for the help

from my experience with my son, I would say there is nothing that obviously excludes you nor anything that makes it obvious you would be appointed. ........ apply, with vigor and have a very solid alternate (as opposed to back-up or safety) so many factors --dont cound on getting in or dont assume you wont

what is the math and verbal break up of your 1950?

my break up is 650 math 680 writing and 620 verbal

that stinks your writing is your highest as west point completely disregards writing. Although m+v= 1270. Thats a decent score but id try to break the 1300 barrier

JJ:
Those scores don't stink, but you should try to push them up if at all possible to be realistically competitive.

Jq:
I would be careful about thinking that West Point disregards the writing portion. That may be true with regard to admissions (so far), but they most certainly will look at your writing scores should you get accepted just as they will look at any AP test scores. Why? Because you still have academic validation during CBT in subjects such as calc, history, english, foreign language, etc. If you score high enough, you MAY validate some of those courses and not have to take them your plebe year. In the end, don't look at ANY national test as "disregarded" or "not counting". They just might at sometime. :)

Which reminds me.....candidates, make sure you have your AP test scores sent to West Point. Even though they are not officially used as part of the admissions process they ARE used should you gain admittance to the academy. They are not a guarantee of class validation but they are taken into account. Better to have them sent now than have your parents scrambling to have them sent over the summer while you are at CBT.

Those were not my words but the head of admissions' words. He told us that usma will not look at the writing at all. A kid asked if he could validate courses based on sat II's and the guy said no. You can only validate courses with Ap score of 4 or 5. I don't see why west point would all of the sudden look at sat scores to validate courses when they never have in the past.

My point was that "NO" scores should be viewed as "not important" and that while a score may not be looked at for admissions (today), many of these scores will be looked at when considering academic validation. One thing that is certain is that things change. Courses are not validated based solely on AP scores but they are taken into account when making the final decision. That could also be the case this year with the SAT I writing score. ....don't assume anything, score as highly as you can on all three portions on the test. WP (or any other academy) may someday look at those writing scores for admissions regardless of past practices. Like anything else you apply for in this real world, while not scoring well on the SAT writing test, or AP tests, or SAT II tests might not officially lose or gain you "points" on your whole candidate score, don't ever assume no one ever looks at them for something else.

man...i remember when i was scrambling and asking questions like this....looks to me like you'll do fine, just up those scores a little bit and keep trying hard!

It's funny that you guys say WP doesn't look at writing at all...while I was there they told us the class most frequently failed by plebes is composition/rhetoric. hm.

Hey, try taking the ACT. The way they break out the scores can be very helpful if you are weaker in the math area. You might think about writing your essay on a typical day, since it seems you are very busy, yet taking rigorous classes and working as a lifeguard. They like to see that you are able to focus, prioritize, and get things done. Stay committed, work hard and heed cadet0509's advice on the other thread - believe in yourself!;-)
