My chances at yale

don't worry..this isn't another chance thread, but my question is: my resume makes me look like a strong math/science person, with few other ec's (although I do have varsity xc/track, captain, key club, hospital volunteering, and tutoring..) I don't have any music/arts supplements or speech and debate or anything like that..but would having more humanities stuff..look more favorable in admissions?
my math/science stuff includes: college classes, president of clubs, numerous competitions, awards, research, summer programs
i did do orchestra before, but not anymore. is it worth putting on my apps, i mean, I did enjoy it, i just couldn't fit it into my schedule.
the reason why im asking this is because, even though I'm strong in math/science, I know yale is strong in humanities and my app would prob stand out more if I elaborated on my music ec, etc. right? idk if this made any sense, but any opinions/advice?

Don’t do things just because they’ll help you for your application. If you’re not a humanities person, that’s fine, and that will probably help you, at least a little, as there are tons and tons of humanities-oriented apps coming to Yale each year. A strong math/science background will make you stand out a little, at the least. If you’re concerned about being perceived as “weak” in humanities, just try get A’s and 770+'s (aka do you best) in history/english/language, etc., or even a rec from a humanities teacher.

so how did u do

how did I do on what?

Well one very important thing for science people to remember is that Yale knows it isn’t the best place for math/sci/engin. So if they are looking at your accomplishments and you have a decently good (which in this context means FAILINGLY mediocre) Why Yale statement, you have to understand that Yale won’t be convinced that it is your top choice or the best place for you. For example, say you have some really hotshot physics research published and you live in San Francisco, Yale has got to be thinking that you are the type of guy who probably will get into Caltech, Stanford, Berkeley, and you will probably not be choosing Yale. Whereas if it was law, Yale can pretty much assume the 'We’re Yale" position and know that you will most likely matric if admitted. So as a math sci student you got to know exactly why you love Yale over the similarly ranked schools that have more prestigious sci/math.

Yup, I think my why Yale was beast. That might have got attention
Well said ^
Work on your essays. I slept and typed and slept and typed and ate and slept and typed and slept and ate and ate more and then typed and typed even more till my essay came out perfect.

Do something like I did

Stick to your strengths, and minimize your weaknesses.

lol good advice, I will do that. Thanks for all the help guise!

so did you get in? or are you a jr?

I agree with Pastel. Additionally, I think you should mention orchestra; have your guidance counselor explain that your schedule didn’t fit it in.
Make sure you stress that you are a leader :]

Eh, it’s good if you’re focused on science/math… but if you are Asian (I have no idea whether you are or not - that’s just generally/stereotypically what math/science kids are) then that makes things more difficult.

You don’t want to come off as someone who only likes science/math things… you just need to show your personality/leadership in your application.

So in that respect, yes, doing things that are more humanities-related and socially involving would be good for your app.

If you show a strong interest in math, science or engineering, write about it well, and have the math SAT and subject tests to corroborate it, your chances should be improved, rather than hindered by a lack of humanities experience or activities.

hmmm…does anyone know for SCEA if the number of applications from your school matters? Is it only one person per school?
don’t laugh at me if this is a dumb question.

not a dumb question. there’s no official quota on any school.
