Hi! I would really appreciate if you guys could chance me :)

I am an international student (living in Oslo, Norway) applying for an undergraduate degree at:

Harvard
Columbia
Yale
Williams
Amherst
Dartmouth

I am an IB student predicted to get 44 out of 45 points with subjects:
English A Higher Level score: 7/7
History Higher Level score: 7/7
Norwegian B Higher Level score: 7/7
Chemistry Standard Level score: 7/7
Physics Standard Level score: 6/7
Mathematics Standard Level score: 7/7
To give a total of 41/42 + an expected three points for my EE and TOK which gives 44/45

I do not know if you guys know too much about the IB but it translates into an almost perfect GPA.

Top of my class 1/40

My SATs did not go to great, but I tried my best:

I will receive fantastic letters of reccomnedations from teachers who really enjoy teaching me.

My essay will be about my international background where I have lived in 5 different countries in four different continents, and my experience going different international schools my entire life. I think it was a great essay.

EC:

-Teaching the Middle East conflict to those in 10th and 11th grade at my school
-Considered an expert in the Middle East by teachers and student body at my school being asked to hold sessions for the teaching staff as well
-Member of the model United Nations club at my school
-Member of the Drama productions at my school for past six years (including main roles for two of those years, and acting in theatre festivals in Edinburgh, Scotland)
-Member of the school marketing team, worked with Dynamo Marketing
-Member of the school newspaper and developed the school FB group
-Played competitive soccer for 6 years now, trial at an elite club
-Vigorous cross-country, jogging training
-President of the student council in 9th and 10th grade

The SAT’s make all of the schools reaches, and AMherst and Williams maybe a low reach/high match. Good luck though, I am also in I.B and your IB scores are very outstanding. what is your GPA?

everything looks great, though your SAT is a little low. i’m not sure if the deadline has passed, but if it hasn’t it might be worthwhile to take the SAT again in January since bumping up your score a little bit would vastly improve your chances. i’d say high reach for harvard and yale b/c they are for anyone, then low reach for columbia, dartmouth and amherst, and high match for williams. all will go up if you improve your scores.

These schools are all high reaches, especially for an international. The scores are too low without a hook. They might overlook a lower than average CR score, but not from someone taking HL English.

I would add some schools where your scores are above median.

you seriously don’t know how to calculate your GPA? ok, google GPA calculator, and it will calculate it for you. Do you have straight A’s, or what?

I think everything looks great except for the SATs. But, I think your international background may end up making up for that in the end. Good luck!

Alright thanks for your input, but my scores are all within the 20-25 percentile for each school. Im sure tht diminishes my chances, but is it really a no-go for all the schools?

if you’re a predicted 44, go ahead and apply. there have been people who have had a 43/44 predicted without extremely high SAT scores who have got into yale, stanford, etc. so i would definitely say APPLY. Ivies like IB students, but it’ll obviously be hard, because they’re choosy.

It was my first and only sitting taking the SAT’s, I made a serious planning error, but i will try to raise it now in January for the ivies, amherst and williams wont accept these scores :/

I have applied to far more “safer” schools in the UK and received offers from good schools there. However, I am really passionate about studying at these great American schools so I decided to apply to them, and I did not choose any safeties for the States, because I didnt want to travel all the way to the US if I could attend a similarly good school closer in the UK.

Thanks I’ll chance you guys back right now :)
