So basically I got a D in first semester Honors Geometry (freshmen year). SO i'm going to summer school this year for it (going to be a junior). I have an overall gpa of 3.1 (after 2 years of hs)

If i do really really well in my junior and senior year (taking 3 AP's in those 2 years) and I write a good story (i got beat, had to work at mcdonalds to pay for house income, parents almost got divorced, turned to sports instead of drugs) basically a sob story (all of the stuff happened, yea my life's ****).DO i have a shot of getting into stanford?

Also my school is ranked #32 in the usa in smartness o.0 yea lol fml

SAT: 2200 Should I take it again?
Should i take ACT?

BTW my moms from kenya, africa so i'm black :p
Also I am going to play 4 years of baseball and football (in high school)
And I went to Pakistan last summer when floods happened and i helped people there

SO yea do i have any shot? :c
Thanks! I really want your guys opinions [:

With that GPA, probably not… You do have a good SAT score for being a URM, which will help you… Getting your GPA up will help you the most, though. Don’t worry about this yet… Just concentrate on your GPA. Good luck!

Your GPA…if you go to summer school, will the grade that you earn there replace your H Geometry grade? GPA is what colleges primarily look at (based on my experiences) and admissions would not be pleased to see a D. Other than that, just raise your GPA as much as possible. Best of luck🍀!

@StanfordOneDay
I didn’t mean to be offensive… URMs just typically have lower SAT scores, so that SAT score seems good for a URM… Whereas a good SAT score for an ORM is 2300+… I’m only comparing students to their (applying) peers… No racism intended. In retrospect, what I said could’ve been easily mis-taken… Sorry! Either way the OPs SAT score is higher than mine, so…=P

your SAT score is pretty good, and the URM thing should help. you’ve clearly worked through a lot of obstacles in your life, and adcoms should respect that. they also look for trends of improvement, so if you make straight As for your last years of high school that should cancel out that D from freshman year.

the one thing you haven’t really talked about is extracurriculars. sports are great, but what are your passions? “passion” seems to be a really important word for stanford adcoms, so you really need to make sure you demonstrate that in your essays. after that, all you’ll need are awesome teacher recommendations and you should have a pretty good shot!

hope that helps, and best of luck

What is URM or ORM?

URM - Under-Representative Minority.
ORM - Over-Representative Majority.

URM - Under-Represented Minority.
ORM - Over-Represented Majority.

Sorry for the post above ^

Will you be a recruited athlete in either sport?
Your GPA is 3.1 but your SAT is 2200 at the end of your sophomore year…yes, you should take the ACT and all other standardized testing that documents your ability to do college level work.
Stanford has many summer programs for URM HS students. You will want to start researching those programs this fall, and meet the deadlines in early 2013 for summer 2013.

Great SAT score but ya gotta get that GPA and rank up as high as you can to get a good honest shot.
