my chances (i have no idea)

hey,

im a girl from australia who's in her second year reading biochemistry. I have no idea what sort of chances I have, because I can't readily compare myself to american students cos the uni system is sooo different here :) Any help would be appreciated.

I've done a year and a half of course work (incl. a semester each of physics, stats, and general biochem, and a year of chem, the second sem organic, and a year of micro), with fairly mediocre grades, averaging about credit level, which is a comfortable pass (NB: grades here are measured such:
<50 FAIL
50+ PASS
65+ CREDIT
75+ DISTINCTION
85+ HIGH DISTINCTION-very hard to achieve)

I have two more years of course work (incl. two years of biochem, a yr of molecular biol, and includes a yr of haematology and a semester of immunology) and then I plan to enrol at Sydney Uni to do the honours year (an optional extra year for credit+ achieving students, which entails a full yr of full-time research in your chosen faculty-biochem or pathology- which i imagine graduate school is sorta like.)

i've promised myself ill get higher grades this semester, so assuming distinction for the next two years, as well as the fact that I study nothing but medical science for the three and a half years it takes to get my degree + the honours research year, what are your thoughts? Should I do something else? There aren't any oppotunities to do research as an undergraduate like there are in America, so I have to wait till honours year, but all my classes are highly lab-oriented.

Thanks for your help :)

sorry, i forgot to mention that i want to work in the research industry, especially in biochem and pathology or something like that, and that my top school is yale :) im an international as well, but w/a mexican background (does that count??)

bump. any help would be appreciated!!
