My chances? (IB diploma)

Alright so I am currently moving into grade 12 in an international IB school in Islamabad, Pakistan hoping to study in the U.S, I am really liking everything I am reading about UF and it sounds like an amazing place to learn.

My stats are:
Unweighted gpa: 3.2
Sat critical+math+ writing: 1710
My school offers no AP classes however I am doing the IB diploma and my subjects with my hopeful grades are:

History HL:6
Chemisty SL:5-6
Physics HL: 4-5
Math SL: 7
French SL: 4
English HL: 6

Currently also getting a good grade in my theory of knowledge class and doing an extended essay on alternative energy resources in pakistan.

Ec's in grade 11 onwards:
Cricket team (won national tournament)
Swim team with 3 medals
1 Model united nations conference (international)
Participated in SOS village (a charity program)
Participated in METU university's greenbrain essay competition
Speak english, urdu and french fluently and can read arabic

Since my school offers no computers/IT courses I am also taking a Java(J2SE) course that ends in september

Ec's in grade 8/9/10:
JAGO charity
Introduction to game design
Tennis
2 MUN conferences ( local)
Dhaka chess competition

My main concern is my low gpa score which i hope to increase in the next few months and I am retaking the SAT and going to take the SAT 2 subject test for math. (Should i also take the ACT and/or TOEFL?)

Also i wonder if it is worth noting that i studied grades 7-10 in dhaka, bangladesh and therefore have that cultural experience

Any feedback would be highly appreciated, and please let me know if i have a shot at UF with my IB diploma, Thanks! :D

Hi! As you read about UF’s admission requirements for International Students, keep in mind that UF loves IB students. The IB program is very popular in Florida’s high schools, so it’s well “understood” by UF.

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/intl/admissionreqs.html</a></p>

You’re EC’s will matter at UF, so feel free to stress them in the application.

Your GPA appears a little low as compared to an in-state student, however, I’m sure you will be compared to your peers. If your GPA is fairly high for your school, then it’s likely fine.

UF doesn’t consider SAT 2 test. If you plan on retaking the SAT test (or taking the ACT), make sure you do it in time to be considered in your application. (for domestic students, UF accepts SAT/ACT test scores up till the end of December, I would think it works the same way for international students)

The TOEFL may not be required. Pakistan is listed as one of the countries with an exception. I would check with the admissions office.

Finally, the UF Pakistani Student Association has an active Facebook page. I would recommend you post your questions here or each out (via e-mail) to some of the members; I’m sure they will love to help answer your questions!

Good Luck!!

Oh wow, thank you so much! I wasnt aware of of the PSA and I am glad I am now, thanks for all the information on the tests, although i would like to take SAT 2 for some other universities just incase, and I suppose my gpa is good fot my school but I’ll work hard to make it better. and just again thank you very much!
