well my parents make over $100,000 together so they disqualifies me from need based aid in Virginia…idk about Cornell’s standards. I’m just guessing. I seriously can’t afford it though. I don’t have grandparents who help out or anything. And my parents can take us on nice vacations and buy us nice stuff but they can’t afford $40,000 a year and I wouldn’t ask them to try. So i guess my state school would be the best…

Cornell still offers need based aid to families who make over $100k/yr. Pretty significant amount too, as long as you are not significantly above that limit.

I don’t think with an income over $100,000 Cornell is going to get the price anywhere near your state school. In another recent thread an accepted student whose parents made $130,000 got aid to lower the price to around $40,000. My guess is perhaps you could get it into the mid 30’s but that is still probably double the price of your state school.

LOL at what norcalguy said! I think you’re fine, just use your writing talents to write one hell of a essay. Nothing is impossible, just make sure to stay positive. And if you can try to improve your math bc even though you’re an English major, they want to make sure you’re well rounded! And if you don’t make it you can always transfer, which is what I did this year good luck and if you have any questions pm me because I literally just went through this process !

Thanks But if my best chances are for ED than I am out because I can’t take a chance.

^ You’re not taking a chance if you ask for FA at ED time. If they don’t offer you enough (you decide, not the school), then you decline the offer.

Those were literally almost identical to my stats except I took the ACT(34) and my class rank was worse(10.03%). I also applied to A&S for creative writing regular decision and I got in. That just shows that anyone has a chance, even ORMs without outstanding stats.

Go use Cornell’s FA calculator to get a rough estimate of the FA you will get. I know that in my state, for a family that makes 100k would be cheaper to go to cornell than a state school.

Thanks! I’ll definetely weigh my options!

Here’s the one thing I know about your chances of getting in – they are infinitely greater if you apply than if you don’t.

As to your stats – obviously the SAT-M is a bit low – but unless you were going to apply to Engineering, I don’t think it’s a killer.

Also, I disagree with others about your ECs. If you have been volunteering 4-6 hours a week, I think that shows dedication and perserverence. So, overall, I think the ECs are average to average plus.

Now will you get in? No one can say – Cornell is a tough admit for anyone. With your stats, I would recommend that you apply.
