Major slip up. When I said CALS, I meant College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

And yes, Arts and sciences is very competitive.

Major slip up. When I said CALS, I meant College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

And yes, Arts and sciences is very competitive.

Which one is the least competitive/most competitive...this won't really influence my decision, I'd just like to know.

I was reading ddfreedom's post in a different thread and he said that diversity plays an important role in admission. The fact that I'm from NY would hurt my chances I bet, but how will the fact that I'm a ward of the court (foster kid) effect them?

Lilly I really encourage you to look at UMAA (University of Michigan Ann Arbor). It is just as good a school as Cornell. When you say Michigan, 99% of the people assume your talking about UMAA.With your current GPA, you have great shot at Michigan.

If you get into Michigan now, you DON'T need to transfer out. Michigan is a fantastic school.

Here is why Michigan is just as good as Cornell. Look at these rankings. I must say first that I have cut and pasted this from a post made by the Cornell Forum Moderater - Alexandre:

BUSINESS (undergraduate)
Michigan: #3
Cornell: #14

I will not list the sub-departments in the Business filed because Cornell is still unranked in most of them, so it would look disproportionate.

GRADUATE ENGINEERING:
Michigan: #8
Cornell: #10

MBA PROGRAM:
Michigan: #6 and #10 (Businessweek and USNWR respectivaly)
Cornell: #7 and #14

MEDICAL SCHOOL:
Michigan: #7
Cornell: #12

Like I said, in terms of rankings, they are about the same. In fact, Michigan is ranked ahead of Cornell in 16 of the 21 fields listed above (and in one of the remaining five fields, Biology, Michigan and Cornell are tied). Michigan is also ranked ahead of Cornell in all of the subfields listed above.

So I really think you should add Michigan to your list. It will give you a great career start - just as good as Cornell. In the U.S. and international world, Michigan and Cornell are just as popular with the same reputation. Actually, in Europe, Michigan is slightly more famous than Cornell.

The only schools I have on my list are in the new england/wash dc region. I never even thought about moving elsewhere, but I'll consider Michigan.

michigan is an excellent school. if u can into it now it would be a foolish mistake to sacrifice it for the above mentioned schools (new england/wash dc region). Unless of course u get into places like harvard, mit, amherst, williams college (these are all in the new england region) but that is unrealistic at this point. Michigan however, is a school that u have a good chance of getting into with your unusual background.

to the previous poster: woohoo HARRY POTTER is coming...
