I have many recomendations from teachers and coaches as well as the principal of my school. I also have a part minority status (1/4 Asian).

Considering all of this, what are my chances (percentage wise) of getting into Michigan. Is there anything I can work on or fix to have a better chance of being admitted? I would love to be admitted to this school!!

I would love it if someone or many people would reply to this and be honest please!!

Hate to say, but with a 3.1 and a 22, you have close to a 0% chance of getting in. I'd think that common sense could tell you that.

It will be real hard for you to get in with a 22 ACT score. The 25-75 percentile for Michigan's ACT is 26-30, and you're well below that. The unweighted GPA for Michigan is 3.6-3.9, well out of your range as well.

If you are from Michigan, a lot of my friends who have about the same scores and GPA as you are looking at Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan. You probably won't get into state with those scores either. My brother's girlfriend got rejected from MSU with a 3.1 GPA and an ACT of 29, and she applied early.

Thank you for responding. I am having a hard time determining which Michigan school I have a better chance at. I am partly from Michigan, but I currently live in Nevada. I have quite a few relatives that are alumni at state and U of M. Could this help my chances of being accepted, at least to state? If not, being from Michigan, would you say that Western is a good school? What I mean by that is can I still get a good start on life and good opportunities from Western? If you could let me know, that would be great!

I also have another question, you recommended Western Michigan, do you know anything about Lake Superior State University? If you do, and you could get back to me, that would be great! There really isn't anything on this website for that school.

It's a small school, way up north. If you want winters with 3 feet of snow on the ground, it's a nice school. Not very diverse, very white, but that's Michigan with the exception of the major cities. Small student/teacher ratio. 19/1. 60 degrees. It's a school where you will get a lot of personal attention.

If I were you I would also consider Oakland University, Grand Valley State and Central University if you want to go to school in MI. I would consider those three before Eastern.

Yeah, GVSU would be fun. But Central is in the middle of nowhere, there is noting in Mount Pleasant. It's not near any major cities either. My friend thought it was a ghost town when he visited and said he didn't want to wind up there.

i've been to EMU (just passing thru town), and I couldn't imagine living there for 4 years. Not a real nice campus, and it's a real party school.... the students are not the best.. and are not the most motivated.

I would not say that you will not get in because Michigan is beginning to take the same attitude as many other elite universities on admissions. Their attitude is pretty much we will take who we want to take. In admission there is always a possibility and you just have to take a chance. It is becoming more and more competitive each year and grades are only part of the equation. There are thousands of smart students out there with a 3.5 or 3.8 GPA so you have to wow the admission officers in other ways. Michigan is very keen on being involved in school and having a interest (one or two) that you have a passion for.

Essays in application are there for you to share what is special about you so take your time, be unique and honest with yourself. One key piece of advice is to not overthink you essays because that will make them worse.

While it's true that Michigan no longer uses charts to determine who gets admitted, you can probably tell a lot by looking at what they used to use. On the old chart, where you needed a score above 100 to be admitted, a 4.0 gpa was worth 80 points and a very good essay was worth 1 point. Even if they review applications more holistically now, it will take a lot to make up for a low gpa.

Well, a lot of people really judge Ypsilanti (Eastern Michigan) poorly. It's not a bad city. My brother lives there, and loves it. It's not the most beautiful picturesque city, but it's not Detroit, you're not going to be robbed, and it's minutes away from Ann Arbor, with a lot of nice stores, bars, etc.
