I was just wondering my chances so far of getting into Georgetown? I'm a white female, and I'm only a sophomore and I haven't gotten my scores back for the SAT/ACT yet, but according to the PLAN ACT I should score around 28-32 the first time. I'll hopefully, probably get around a 2000 on the SAT first time.

I take all the Honors classes my school offers, and advanced math. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and I'm tied with 3 or 4 others for the top of my class. I run cross country (5 years so far) and I've been on the debate team since freshmen year, qualifying to nationals once and state twice.

I go to a public school in the midwest, I'd say it's a fairly competitive school.

I'm looking to be a political science major, or something else in that vein.

Just based off of this, can anyone estimate my chances for Georgetown? Thanks! :)

to be honest, your ec's are mediocre...but if you take a bunch of ap courses and aim for at least a 2200 SAT, you should be good
I appreciate that a sophomore is already thinking about college!

Yeah, I know I don't have much in the EC department, because I try to put my all into what I am in, instead of spreading myself thin.

I'm planning to take every Honors/AP course my school offers, and I'm planning to take addition SAT subject tests and AP tests in subjects like U.S. Government, French, probably English. I'm not the best at math but I'll manage through it in order to be valedictorian.

You've got a good shot. 2200 seems to be the score to have when applying to more competitive schools. The debate is impressive; try to get some more distinguishing awards.
Anyway, yeah, great chances so far.
(I'm also a rising junior-- saw you on the SAT board-- we are the next generation of CC! :P)

try to get leadership within debate, like Captain or something

Thanks everybody who replied!

So it looks like I'm on the right track? I plan to run for president of the debate team next year, and I should at least get some kid of officer status even if I don't win. I have a good chance of being captain of the cross country team senior year, as well. I'm hoping to get a job as a tutor this summer or next year, too.

Definitely run for prez on debate team and try to maybe be a class officer (if possible). Honestly, you will need to hit 30+ on the ACT and 2150+ on the SAT to be a solid applicant. Also, a volunteering goes a long way. Maybe instead of working you could volunteer at an animal shelter, nursing home, etc?

I've done a bit of volunteering - at the animal shelter, actually - but most of it was my freshman year, and then I got more focused on schoolwork.

I should be able to easily get a 30 on the ACT according to all the practices I've taken. Hopefully I'll have anywhere from a 2050-2150 on my SATs this time (first time) and we'll work up from there.
