My chances to ED at Fu fundation of Columbia or U penn engineering

Hollow, everyone!

I've been following CC for several years now and I finally decided to join. Could you tell me what do you think of my chance to ED U penn and Columbia? I would like to hear from you before decide which one to apply. I will apply for the engineering school.

Thanks!

UPenn - IN (provided you ED there)
Columbia - reach

^ Why a reach at Columbia ED? I think he surely is in at both schools. What is lacking here, may I ask? I am really curious cuz I have been thinking I can get in both schools ‘ED’ even though I have slightly lower numbers (but a bit more diverse ECs and leaderships). Please??

At this point, there is not enough information to give a decent opinion on his chances. The ECs appear to be especially weak.

Honestly, great shot at both as Penn and Columbia they take high numbers of ED kids, and let’s face it, the top kids will be saving themselves for MIT/Caltech.

BTW, not to cause conflict, but Fu eng. is pretty overrated, esp. when compared to Penn

very solid. and i definitely think that the fact that you’ve gotten all of those 5’s for you AP tests excuses the fact that you don’t have many EC’s. i mean, a person’s gotta have time to study right? :)

my ears (eyes?) perked up at seeing that you submitted a thesis to the siemens competition. i did as well. good luck to you!

this is entirely false, dunno about Penn but Columbia SEAS ED has little over a 25% acceptance rate, with an overall acceptance rate of 13%, which should decline significantly this year. Columbia seas also has higher SAT scores than MIT: [Columbia University - 2009](http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/4625/screen/19?school_name=Columbia+University)

and columbia has 97% of their admitted students in the top 10% of their class, higher than MIT as well.

[Admission Statistics | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/stats.php)

the OP’s chances of getting in early to columbia are much less than you make it out to be.

@confidentialcoll

Yea but you are comparing MIT as a whole and Columbia SEAS, two different groups. MIT has a business school, in addition to regular liberal arts studies. If you go strictly by engineering majors at both, I would tend to doubt that the stats are as similar as you make them.

^90% of MIT undergrads major in math, sci, engineering, the bschool kids can’t be lowering the ranges by much at all, if even. Columbia seas might be ranked considerably lower, but that doesn’t really hurt selectivity and in my experience it doesn’t hurt outcome either, there’s ample recruiting from top cs and wall street firms which pay the best out of college
