Now, these may not seem impressive. They aren't. I'm not a normal applicant. Up until very recently I was planning on applying to the major music conservatories as a vocal performance major. My hopes were to because a professional opera singer. Due to personal reasons (wanting to have a life/tired of being locked up in a practice room), I have decided to pursue a career as a psychologist. I'm currently a professional soprano soloist in the Philadelphia area. I'm hoping this could be a "hook," as they call it, for admissions. I've sung as a soloist from the Kimmel Center in Phila. to Carnegie Hall in NYC. I'm currently the soprano soloist for the Mastersingers of Phila., and I have an extremely impressive oratorio resume for someone my age.

My problem is up until recently I geared all my studies toward a career in music, and now the course of my life has changed and I'm completely clueless. I am planning on taking 3 AP's senior year (it's too late for this year), being a member of NHS if not this year senior year, and taking a few SAT II's. Comparing myself to others on this forum, my PSAT scores leave much to be desired. I'm currently trying very hard to prepare for the upcoming one in October (although I think I've spent more time worrying about it then preparing). I have straight A's in all my courses, am very consistant when it comes to grades, and I'm an extremely strong writer. It would be greatly appriciated if someone could lend me a hand and help give me an idea as to where I stand in the admissions process (do I have a slim chance at an ivy?, could I be a potentional candidate at one of the better liberal arts schools?, etc). Any imput would be more than welcome!

Thanks,

Katie (who never realized that non-music applicants had to take so many standardized tests!)

where are you applying?

I'm actually not quite sure, I have a couple ideas, but I just started exploring schools outside of music conservatories. It's all a little daunting. I know I want to go somewhere in the northeast. I'm just not sure how I measure up to those applying to some of the better schools.

how are your SAT scores? SAT II's?

I'm just getting ready to start junior year and haven't taken the SAT or SAT II's yet.

it is hard to give chances without tests or schools
