My Chances?

So I wanted to know my chances at getting at UCSB. Please just tell me if I have a chance or no chance at this college
I have a 3.9 UC GPA and a unweighted of 3.3. My ACT score is a 27 but I’m making a last effort to get a 30 or above. If I can raise my ACT score how greatly will my chances improve?

I have many EC’s such as VP of two clubs and then President of of a club at my school. I’m a Varsity Soccer player and play soccer for one of the top Premier level Clubs in the state. I participated in a govt and politics camp at UCLA. I’ve volunteered for 2 years for mentally challenged kids who play soccer in a AYSO VIP Program. I’ve had work experience for about 4 years working as an assistant for a dyes company as well. I’ve attended 2 Peer court sessions and lastly, have volunteered at a medical center.

AP Classes: 7
Thanks!!

Gpa is pretty low by UC standards. Good act score though. Ec’s are also pretty good. If there’s any way you can raise your gpa that’d make you much more favorable.

Unfortunately, since it is my senior my gpa is pretty much unchangeable but I’m really hoping for a 31.

Intended Major?

Well if that’s the case you still have a solid chance. I go to ucsb currently and was accepted with a 4.2 gpa and a 24 act. So if you raise that act score it’ll forsure help you out. Are taking rigorous courses senior year?

Even with a 30 ACT, it could go either way (for the college of letters and science - engineering, probably not). A compelling essay could tip the scales your direction.

Good luck

Is there any chance of recruitment for soccer? I realize soccer at UCSB is highly competitive but just a thought. YOu have a chance if you can get that ACT score up but right now it is too low. Have you tried taking the SAT’s? Some people do better with one test over the other.

Thanks for the replies!
My intended major is pretty undecided maybe leaning towards medicine?
My senior year schedule is pretty easy compared to my first 3 years.
Schedule:
AP lit
Ap stats
AP gov/econ
Physics
Soccer
I do have a conplelling of essay about the passing away of my mom. For soccer recruitment, I’m getting recruited by other schools, but not by UCSB. And I suck at SAT.

Talk to your coach and have her/him find out if UCSB might be interested. Sometimes fate needs a helping hand…

Another option is to attend a community college and then transfer into UCSB as a junior. UCSB has a transfer agreement with Santa Barbara City College (which by the way has the most beautiful campus ever right across from the beach) so you could start there and then transfer easily.

I know several students who have attended SBCC while living in IV, most found it difficult to earn the grades required to transfer to any UC in a timely manner. The combination of parties, beach and lack of structure/accountability proved too distracting. Most had to return to their parent’s home after a semester or two and start over at their local CC. Of the small sample I know - about 20% made it. Pretty long odds. I wouldn’t send my kid into that environment.

That may just be an artifact of the sample size.

According to Admissions by source school | University of California SBCC had 502 students accepted Fall 2014; only Santa Monica CC had more.

Appreciate the advice but I’m not going to go to a cc.

No question SBCC is one of the best CCs in CA but, the environment around the school serves as a HUGE distraction to undisciplined students. Most students who can earn admission into UCSB can turn off the noise when they need to and focus on their education when necessary.
