i know this one!!!! oh and nuygent i agree with u i didnt notice he only has one AP

more like...an ice cube's chance
but who knows? maybe he'll be accepted and i won't

Dre, your chances are slim to none at any of the Ivys. If you get into any of the Ivys with those stats due to your URM status then AA, which I am a big proponent of, should be abolished immediately.

cut the guy some slack. im sure the last thing these schools want is another prick. dre seems liek a sincere guy, althought the numbers might not jump at adcoms, he may still win them over, you never know.

top 20%, 620 V, 540 M... i think i typed 1110 above, i meant 1160...

Yea, thanks E.... Guys, I really don't appreciate those nasty comments... "A snowball's chance in hell..." I should've expected that from the people on here...

quit whining kid. you just don't cut it. pick some lower tier schools and move on. don't blame anyone else for your shortcomings as a student. i'm not trying to be mean, but you need to be real.

It's good that you applied, that being said... nothing about you stands out besides the colour of your skin. And unfortunately, I don't think that's enough to get into Yale/Harvard/Cornell. But don't take my word for it, I don't work in the admission's office. In the end, they will decide your fate.

well thats the problem with these "what are my chances" threads. the people asking already know the answer, or they THINK they know the answer, they just want other people to agree with them. when someone doesn't agree, it's called being rude or being nasty. if you put your stats and stuff out there hoping to be criticized, you WILL be criticized, and in your case dre, you're just not ivy league stuff. alot of people on here think that URMs get to anywhere they want, well about 99% of those people dont know jack about what they're saying. so well we just dont want to give you false hope, if you make it in, then we're happy for you, we just dont want to say something that is against what we truly think.

This is not a bash post but Dre, seriously, you posted because you wanted people to tell your their chances and they are giving you their opinion. If your intentions were to get positive feedback to lift your self esteem or make yourself feel better, this is not the place to do it.

You should go talk to eibrahim. He applied to Cornell and Penn with stats somewhat similar to yours. He's posted practically everywhere possible. If you are unwilling to take these opinions, read ones given to him.

There are more but I don't feel like looking them up.

honestly dre; you asked for it.

Whoops, major typo in my first sentence. Can't edit after 20 minutes.

wut in tarnation is a URM?

under represented minority. pertains to mainly blacks and hispanics.

I asked for what? It is rude to say one has a "snowball's chance in hell." I wasn't neccesarily looking for positive feedback--I don't need you for that. There is a better way of saying that someone won't get in. What I needed from you was an objective evalution of my chances of getting into theese institutions. I don't need an opinion from anyone else. TOPIC CLOSED.

Canadia, it's kinda sad you wasted several minutes of your life looking up something so pointless. dre already applied to other schools, but want know his shot at his reaches. you guys are giving a reality check but putting it Very harshly, making jokes out of dre's stats is unecessary, and immature.

all i had to do was click on your name since you've posted so much. besides, what about me wasting a couple minutes? you've been posting about your chances even after you submitted your application.

Edit: I agree with jf215. Please do not be so bitter (both Dre and Eib). You knew what you were going up against when you posted.

which dre, in case you didn't notice ; most of us provided. some people chose to state the facts more bluntly than you would have liked them to, but THAT'S THE RISK YOU TAKE when you post your stats on CC (especially if they're not the norm 1300+, 4.0, etc). For you to cry when people insult you is crazy, because you asked for an honest evaluation of your chances. you know the saying: if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I actually tend to think that even 1500+/800/800/800, 4.0 students are sometimes told that they have no hope for Harvard, Yale and Princeton because they don't have a gigantic hook of some sort. The reality is that Harvard, Yale, and Princeton DO take many of these students, because the way they fit into the class can only be seen on their full applications. Now, many of them also DON'T get in, perhaps because their applications were as boring as their College Confidential posts, perhaps because their essays or recs were not quite up to par, or because they just didn't fit into the class.

I have to say, that at College Confidential, we really compare applicants to the "clear admit" line, and that's because we don't have much else to go by. College Confidential posters will be able to evaluate the quality of your course selection, your achievements in school, your standardized test scores, your extracurricular achievments in the context of the applicant pool and any obviously extenuating circumstances or hooks that might come into play. They can't evaluate recs and school support, which often draw distinctions between the 1500+/4.0's. They certainly can't see how you would fit into a class, or if any particular school really happens to like students that fit your profile.

However, once you get a general assessment of your statistics, you can see the ways in which you can rise and fall from where you begin. Are you really distinguished from the average "strong contender" in the Ivy League applicant pool? Judging by your statistics, to be admitted, you would have to have glowing recommendations, a superb essay, and many mitigating factors to explain your low testing and many of your low grades. Your parents also could be fabulously wealthy, and they could fund a new building at some Ivy League college.

I hope I put this fairly to you, and I hope I showed you how College Confidential's evaluations work. I wish you the best of luck in your admissions decisions. We are a small community here, and we should be gracious enough to wish those around us well, and mean it genuninely. However, from what your original post presents, I don't quite think you're in the ballpark where very many things can help you. I'm very sorry.

Joey

I actually know someone who believes that Harvard automatically wait-lists at best anyone with an SAT score below 1500.
