My Chances

Hey. I'm just wondering if you guys think I have a shot to make MIT.

Average: 99.43, weighted.

SAT: 2230
Math: 740
Verbal: 730
Writing: 760

SAT II World History: 760

SAT II Biology: 690 (I'm retaking this in November)

I'm also taking Math 1/Math 2 in November since they do require a Math SAT II.

I'm an NMSQ semifinalist and in my school's NHS program.

I've been a member of our science olympiad team for 3 years, and gotten a medal in Astronomy for 4th place junior year.

I've been on soccer for 4 years, and got the Coach's Award sophomore year.

I've been in the integrated science association, math league, investment club, computer club, Irish club, intramurals, referee association, and have some volunteer work with my Church.

I received an award for being the top Biology student Sophomore year, and have made Principles list for all three years so far.

I also have my own online business, which I have been running since last year. I created it on my own currently employ one other person. It's not a typical small ecommerce website, its a pretty innovative idea that has gotten fairly popular. I'm hoping that this will separate me from most other applicants. (I have not finished registering it as an LLC just yet, but its a business nonetheless).

So, do I look like I'm in good shape so far?

I think you’re in the running for sure. From what I’ve seen with these top schools is that once you’re passed a certain threshold it’s just a luck of the draw type of thing.

You also didn’t mention the rigor of your courses. You should probably take a lot of AP/IB/Honors math and calculus to think about MIT

And just for my own curiosity, what does Irish Club entail?

Hey, thanks for the reply.

Yes, I’ve taken AP and Honors courses. My APs are AP World History, AP US History, and AP Literature. I got a 5 on all the exams. This year I’m taking AP Bio and AP Calc BC. If I didn’t have an AP class for the subject, I had an Honors class for it.

And as for the Irish club, not much - just a few meetings, competitions against other ethnic clubs, and a booth at our annual International Day. It’s not anything amazing, but its just another club on my transcript.

Wait… what is a Principle’s List?

BTW, you look in really good shape, especially because of those business interests. Have you been an officer in any of those clubs?

Yes
I think it was supposed to be “Principal’s List”
