what are my chances at grinnell for regular decision??? thanks a lot

Hey!
Maybe try to raise your SAT a little (or try out the ACT) and make sure you really present a couple of ECs you are really committed to.
Living in Russia will perk their interest, I believe.
I would say right now match/reach:)
I'm applying too RD, it's a nice school!
good luck!

S is at Grinnell and D applied and was accepted but chose Kenyon. Your stats look fine but it is getting harder and harder every year so who knows. Kids at Grinnell also apply to:

Macalester
Kenyon
Carleton
Oberlin
Univ of Chicago
Wash U St Louis
Reed
Pomona............

Before you go, ask yourself if you want to extend the Russian language further. The Russian department is one of the best at the school. Take advantage of it.

You will get in, unless there is something less than truthful in the outline.

You have an item in your quiver which makes admissions officers gloat. I know as my wife -- also a Grinnellian -- came from abroad. Even though her parents were midwestern Wonder bread eaters, she gave the small LAC a badge for participation for a mideastern country.

You are a "Russian" according to the statistics. Gettign RUssians is not easy. Getting Russians to attend a small liberal arts college in Iowa is more difficult. But, having a Russian student at Grinnell is another great statistic for the school to boast about.

Some call representation of all 50 states the "holy grail." Grinnell meets that almost every year. And, to have 40-50 foreign countries as well, makes the school's representation incredibly impressive.

I gave a dinner for some students last year and they came from: California (2); Chicago(1), Minneapolis (2), Africa (1), Ecuador (1), India (1), Miami (1) and Iowa (1). Impressive?

While it is true that your experiences in Russia will be of interest to the admission folks, you are NOT considered Russian in their statistics. US Citizens are always counted as such, regardless of where they attended high school.

Your SAT puts you right in the mix, which isn't a good thing or a bad thing. In the best case scenario, you could up that by 30 points or so and really get an edge. As is right now, based on a projected average of nearly 2100 for class of 2010, it's just too close to call for you. Definitely make sure the essay is polished.
