My chances?

Im sorry this is also in the Naval and West Point section but I’m also interested in applying to the Air Force academy

Hi I’m currently an Asian junior in a New York City Public School and I have an extreme interest in attending West Point for my future. I’ll try to list every spec about me and if you guys could help me on what I need to improve until the time being, that would be great.

Current GPA : 91, working towards at least a 93 until the end of Junior Year (Seems reasonable from my perspective). Oh and I starting from this year I’ve realized the importance of school and my English and Psychology classes are both AP. The rest (US History, Pre-calculus, Spanish 5) are all honors except for Physics. So I think I have a fair chance of reaching that 93 or possibly 94.

SATs: Never took an official SAT, however I’ve been attending SAT classes for the past year or two and took some practice ones very similar to the official ones. Few months ago I achieved at 1810 and I’m working towards a 1900-2000 (again, reasonable) which I’ll be taking 2 or 3 times, starting from March. I’m not planning on taking the ACT.

Extra Curricular: Volunteered at a Korean Community Service center (Government funded). Continuously help in my church community. (My father’s a pastor). No school clubs (Maybe I should consider joining one). Will be trying out for the school’s Varsity Volleyball team the next month. I am in my school’s leader program.

I’m pretty fit overall, height: 5 feet 7 inches. Weight 158lb. I do work out, however my cardiovascular is very weak though I’m working on it. I get tired too easily, but I’m working towards it, for the CFA. As of right now, I can say that I’m in the average or possibly a bit lower than average, compared to the average statistics. However, I know I have some months which I’ll be doing some hardcore training.

Although I’m not a US Citizen right now, my parents will be taking the Exam on October of 2010, so even though I would be applying as a non-citizen, I can attend (if I’m offered) WP since I’ll get my citizenship in time. However the problem is I really want to attend the SLS program for my 2010 summer. However, my parents told me that they’d be doing their exam on September of 2010 at earliest (I receive citizenship automatically if they receive). So is there any possible way that I can either get my citizenship quicker or still attend the SLS without a citizenship?

Also, my school guidance counselors and college advisers don’t really tell me much about how to get a Nomination. So if anyone could tell me exactly and specifically what I can do to get one (or more).

And also, I’ve read that they consider class rank. If this doesn’t mean school rank, what can it mean? For what specific class?

That’s all I can think of for now. I’ll post some more questions if I have. Thanks in advance.

I never like to give chances, what I and most others will tell you is you have no chance if you don’t try. I don’t know the answers off the top of my head to most of your questions, but I do know that class rank is your position in your class at school (i.e. what number you are in your grade, top student, top 10% etc.) Also, have you looked at the academy website? It has a lot of the information you are probably looking for
[Air Force Academy](http://www.academyadmissions.com/)

I dont have a chance either . I’m asian and the only asian in my backgrounds (Bengali) to ever consider the military and actually try out for the academy . I have great classes and extra curricular activity ,but i have a low grade average 2.8 and what I’m going through in my life is like hell mentally and emotionally but i still plan to go through the process in applying to the Air Force Academy and West Point and hopefully get a better grade soon it’s just my determination and heart to go is with me i never had support so I’ve been doing everything myself for preparation for life and one day i hope to get in to one.

No more Debbie Downer! Just work work work and when you are assigned an ALO, keep in contact. If you plan to attend an Academy with average or below physical fitness, I will just say that’s not really a good plan. You should work every day toward maxing your CFA. Also, you need some leadership; get a job (a real one). It’s getting pretty late to just “join a club.” I’m sure your ALO and the Adcoms at all the Service Academies will wonder why you didn’t bother until now.

Get busy. You have a lot to do.

Also, if you do wind up at the Academy, you’re going to want a more professional handle than “fartman.” Just saying…
