My college tutor can barely speak english.

So, my college tutor is African and boasts about speaking Chinese, Danish and some other languages. I can hardly see this as being true as he can barely speak english and he is a teacher in an english college. When we are in class and he is talking to us, he starts off stuttering about what he is trying to teach and then stops, and stands staring at his desk in front of him for a few moments before he starts talking again. When he starts talking again it won’t necessarily be about what he was trying to teach previously either, it will be about a completely different topic.

How are we supposed to learn about the course when the teacher can barely speak the english language? its not even like we can just take the assignments and do them on our own because they are written by the teacher and are in poor english. Also we have exams as well as assignments so we need to learn about the topics that would be in the exams.

I have tried to ask for help with the work but the teacher doesn’t offer any help and just tells you to ask the person next to you, and its not like he’s busy with other students, our class has 10 students and we are all puzzled 90% of the time. When we finally get through to him that everyone is stuck, he end up just making us more confused than we were in the first place.

Its not just me trying to be a dick. I’m genuinely struggling with the course. I don’t want to do the course anyway due to not wanting to do 10 years at university following it and the teacher is not helping me want to endure the course. I am being forced to continue with the course by my parents, which do not listen to my problems, which doesn’t help the situation in any way.

What would be my course of action? Should I speak to a head of department? or would I come across racist?
The course is causing deep stress because we have 16 assignments to complete this year and 3 exams too. The 3 assignment I have completed have been a pass or fail and any university is looking for is looking for merits or distinctions.

Which uni and what is the course? And yes, go discuss this, take your teacher written assignments, maybe film some of your lesson. 10 students can organise to speak together about the issue. If all of you are having an issue, youshould all be able to state what it is.

Don’t say the uni and course on the public forum if you still want anonymity.

Perhaps you could state that this is a real UK university, not some private uni? UK students usually hit the student room which is more relevant than CC, so one might assume the OP is not from the UK.

Doesn’t sound like a university to me as OP indicates it should lead to university entrance later - maybe an FE college?

Its a uk state college and the course is an extended diploma in construction and the built environment

I’m a bit surprised you’re using CC when there’s TSR?? This seems to be a further education college, and not a higher education university.
