My CommonApp essays are similar to one another

I've written both my 150-word extracurricular essay and my 250+ word personal statement, and they are both about writing. The first is about journalism and the second is about my general love of words.

Is it detrimental that my CommonApp essays are so similar to one another, in that they are both about writing? These are some possibilities I've come up with:

It might be detrimental, because admissions officers will think my application is one-dimensional and uninteresting.

It might be helpful, because admissions officers will see my application as vibrant, passionate, and focused.

It's neither detrimental nor helpful, because my supplemental essays will expose other elements of my character.

What do you think? 1? 2? 3? Or perhaps something else?

BTW, my mom thinks #1.

I see no problem as long as you’re discussing different themes. If your journalism essay is about how you like to put words together or if your word essay is about how you like to use words in your writing, then it might be problematic. As long as they don’t overlap then you should be okay.

Thanks! Yeah, I mean I focused on journalism for the 150-word essay and fiction, poetry, reading, teaching kids to read, etc. for the 250+ word statement. They are both about writing, so I don’t know!

Anybody else? 1? 2? 3?

I think 1. You should absorb your 150 worder in to the 250 worder, because 250 is a minimum and it should really be 400-600

Sorry for the confusion, it’s actually around 500 words. I just call it the 250+ word statement because that’s the minimum.
