My daughter has a 34 composite on her ACT. 4.9 weighted GPA, had an internship her junior year at Fermilab outside Chicago. But only 2 EC Chess club and computer club. She worked at a pizza shop weekends and after school so she could pay for tutoring for her ACT. Obviously, it worked. She has applied to Stanford, MIT, Mud, Caltech, UM Ann Arbor, and Nortre Dame. EA. She has sterling recommendations for 2 instructors and her boss at work. What are the odds folks or is she in a dream world? We do not know how to pay for any of this either.
Sorry 3.9.
“We do not know how to pay for any of this either.”
OK, this is concerning. Did you run the Net Price Calculator at any of these schools? Does she have any safeties? ND’s EA decisions are out, as are Michigan’s. Was she admitted?
What state are you in and what can you contribute each year toward college?
When applying to tippy tops, kids need to understand what those colleges value and look for. In that way, they can know more about how to make their best presentation, in the app and supps. It’s more than stats, a job, an internship, and 2 clubs.

I would really get on the financial part. It is possible that she gets into a few of these schools but that none of them make financial sense.
Before my D applied to schools I did a spreadsheet and a corollary with suggestions for cheaper alternatives (only one cheaper option was explored). She got into two schools that came nowhere near our budget. Another she got into was at the high point of budget and no better than a school which was $17K cheaper. My D and wife complained about this even with my prior explanation (I had no way of knowing what aid would be given). Fortunately she has an in state option that is affordable, an out of state option with scholarship that is affordable and some other possibilities that we are waiting on.
My point is that we had somewhat of an issue despite a bunch of planning and mapping things out. So, make sure your daughter is protected and knows what things will likely cost plus what you can spend as a family etc.
She has done very well so best of luck!
Her stats are in the ballpark, so yes, it is going to come down to presentation. The financial talk should have happened much earlier, however. She should apply to an affordable back-up ASAP.
