I remember one hairy trip I took alone at age 17 to the University of Utah. (don't ask ) I arranged it all by myself, took public transport, and was allowed to spend the night in an empty room in the dorm. Big problem was that I did not bring an alarm clock and I was worried that I would miss my early morning bus back to the airport. Didn't sleep a wink, but got home safely! ;)

Is that why you are anxiousmom.

Nahhhhh.... I'm just hardwired this way. ;)

Just chiming in to say we're at the beginning of this college search journey (d is a hs junior) and we've only made one college visit trip. Previously we visited colleges within driving distance of our home, just to get a feel for what is there and ways to keep our eyes open. I suggest you do this with your d and discuss as a family what in particular you saw as positives and negatives. When we did go on the college visit trip, we felt very prepared for what we wanted to see - not that we didn't have some surprises, but we all felt prepared and were on the same page after having looked at the colleges closer to home.

so nervous. son is on his way to hotel near campusnow. paid for it and sent them the required credit card authorization. thought i was so on top of things…now realizing that since he is 17 they may not let him check in. feeling too chicken to call the desk before he checks in --just in case that might draw unnecessary attention to his age…just venting at this point. but if anyone has any words of wisdom about what to do in case they won’t let him check in…
