My ECs show a passion: Academics!

Am currently a sophomore.

Scholars' "Quiz" Bowl - 9-12
Forensics - 9
Debate - 10-12 (did forensics b/c there was no debate 'til this year)
Oceanography Club - 11-12
CTY for three years (before 8-before 11)
French exchange next year - 11
Co-founded school computer science club - 10
Alto saxophone - 6th grade onward - forever

There'll be more as things come up, plus I do other things with my free time. If I presented my ECs like this, would adcoms see it as a theme/passion?

I'm a little harsh...but I think it needs to be a bit more coherent. You can have a passion for academics...but it could be taken as a passion for randomness. The computer club thing is pretty neat, if you can build it into something large.
The good thing is, you're a sophomore and you have lots of ECs to work with. But as the activities stand, I don't know if an adcom would see a theme (although they should see passion).

Don't worry about developing a "theme". Many years of committment to music and an passion for intellectual advancement across a wide spectrum of areas are great EC's . Just stick with them through HS , try for leadership positions[ like Captain of the Quiz bowl team, etc] and you should be fine. Adcoms at a university like the University of Chicago would say you are just the kind of student they are looking for.

It may be a passion for many varied things, but I don't see much of a focus.

i don't think that's harsh, terrapin7, i see your point.

Come on, guys, do you want to attend a college that fits you or do you want to fit a certain college? Kaznack, I think your list of ECs is good the way it is. Not outstanding but certainly decent.
