My experience at Ball State- Unifieds Audition

I auditioned for Ball State University’s Musical Theatre program at Chicago Unifieds almost a year ago and I cannot speak any higher of the process.

The professionalism and kindness I experienced before, during, and after my audition stood out from every other school I auditioned for. The department didn’t treat me like a number, but like a young performing artist that they could possibly work with for the next four years. The faculty took the time to not only investigate my talent, but who I am as a person as well. I felt so comfortable in the audition setting and really felt like the faculty was invested in making the audition process as relaxed and enjoyable as it could be.

Words of advice to those auditioning:
This time is yours to shine and I can promise you that the people behind the table want you to succeed.
Stay organized. Know what pieces you will be performing for each school and make a stop at the concierge desk to get a spreadsheet of every school with all the room numbers so you know exactly where you’re going.
Be early. Being in a rush is the last thing you need to be stressed about before your audition.
Have fun! You will look back and realize that this time was one of the most special milestones in your life: the time you went out there and pursued your dreams.

rdomann - Thank you for timely post and great advice. I will pass it along to my son who will be auditioning for Ball State on Saturday.

I am currently a junior musical theatre at Ball State University, and also had an incredible Unified audition experience at Ball State. Unified auditions were both crazy, and exhilarating, and Ball State added an aura of calm to this tumultuous mix. This is what ultimately led me to choose Ball State!
Immediately upon entering the room, I could sense the openness of the auditors, and their genuine desire for my success. I felt my best work was presented, simply because they created a comfortable, and productive environment. Judgement was certainly not a part of this process, which immediately drew me.
Auditioning at Ball State Unifieds is still a fond memory, although it was almost three years ago. The presence I felt in the room certainly transferred to my college experience. I have felt my professors invest in me, and this has pushed me to yearn for more, and realize that my capabilities are endless.
Ball State creates a challenging, yet positive, learning environment. This breeds confident, hard-working, and well rounded students ready to work!
