^Hey, I find it really wrong for someone to get into a school because he/she lied on the application and took over the spot of a more deserving applicant! Those sorts of things really bug me, and the ethical thing is to report him.

Before reporting him, I'd at least try talking with him about it first. I certinaly think this is horrible, but if you do in fact report it, I think it'd be pretty low to not let him know what you're doing. Personally, I guess I think'd it be better to more or less "threaten" to call them adcom than actually call them. That being said, to be honest, as much as I hate it, I wouldn't do anything except try to convince him not to do it. I'm just not the kind of person who would threaten or "rat" on my friend.

You obviously value honesty more than loyalty. Now if one confronts one's friend and tells him/her that he/she shouldn't do this, or if the application's already been submitted, that it was an unethical thing to do, that's fine. But to snitch on one's friend behind his/her back would be neither loyal nor honest to the friend.

let him live with his own mistakes. it will all catch up with him someday, and one more year of debate is not going to admit or deny him, believe it or not. neither is being treasurer compared to VP (it would only really matter if he put down president).

Ask him how he would feel if his spot were taken by somebody who doesn't deserve it, or who lied on his/her application. Ask him if he thinks it would be fair if your English teacher wrote your entire essay for you?

As for calling his schools, I'm sure you have lots of better things to do than to sabotage your friend's application. It's his choice, and if he "gets away with it" it'll all come back and bite him in the bud later on when it becomes clear that he's not nearly as experienced as he claimed to be. But it's really not your business to be a snitch.

Personally, I don't think his little lies will help him all that much. Do you think colleges will accept him based on the "fact" that he did theater his freshman year? The fact that he's trying so hard to buff up his application suggests that there isn't much depth or value in it in the first place, and if he's that unsure about his grades then the extra year of debate won't be enough to save him.

I wouldn't report him, because honestly that doesn't say anything great about you as a person. Let him live with what he's done and feel guilty over it and that's punishment enough for him.

My college counselors told everyone to be very careful about what they put in their applications, especially in regards to extracurricular activities. She said that a lot of the time the interviewers may catch people on lies and will bust you out. Furthermore, she said that often times colleges may randomly "audit" your application and call the respective companies, organizations, or your counselors to verify the things you place on your application.

to be honest there is to an extent that your friend is doing a good thing and a bad thing......now it seems weird that im saying this but its reality..american colleges lost their integrity along time ago by accepting bribes to let in lower qualified rich students into their university...for example George W Bush Jr.( got into harvard how?) my understanding is that america is run on cheats, scandals and lies...the admissions process is competitive and i am betterin 3/4s of these people do to some extent lie on certain aspects of the application....im currently in canada but im an american born citizen, and in canada it is so easy to get into a university...u should understand that we dont have most of these AP stuff and all these crazy internship things for highschoolers which are ways to strengthen your application in the admission process...sure he lost some morale integrity cuz he change around a few things...at least he didn bribe his teachers into switching grades...its hard to live with it maybe...but in the end result u wanna get into ur #1 choice for university and thats what matters...only thing stopping u is admissions and if u know ur a highly qualified student and set ur goal for 1 specific university id do anything to get in...

thats exactly me

think how hard it is studying internationally in a public school system in ur third language?

being limited to not having great counselors and amazing ways to better your character through internship programs/ school organized research fairs whatever...

so in the end its the result that matters...not how you get there...sounds weird but i dont really care about my journey through highschool its all just a number these universities want...if it werent we wouldnt need SAT and what not...i know so many qualified kids but the only thing that stops them is just a simple test and time

Second, the fact that you speak three languages will most likely be a huge plus on your applications.

Third, all kinds of applicants lie on their applications. It is a fact of life and it is always wrong but I do not believe you should turn in a friend.

Finally, I get really tired of people bashing the United States and its' systems. Although you say you were born in the U.S. you are now evidently in Canada. Obviously, you want to come back to the U.S. to get your education. If the U.S. is such a terrible place then why not just apply to an "easy to get into" university in Canada. If you come back to the U.S. it will probably only corrupt you. The internationals at my school are constantly bashing the U.S. but most are on generous aid packages. If the U.S. is so awful then why apply to college here, or accept money from us? Sorry, that really makes me angry.

well u see thanks to propaganda america has thought to be the best for certain programs...when really you lower the esteem and better reputatble schools in foreign countries persay Indias institute of technology, Londons school of economics, Beijing University etc...cuz american universities have such a huge name if u graduate from one u get a job anywhere...im not bashing the americans im just saying this as a fact of life...if it werent for this id be studying else where...and also some of the programs america has are really good..i dont just go to america for the reason of "oo lala the campus is hot" or "this is the best party school for smart people" etc...i mapped a future and now i am following it...and ill do whatever it takes to achieve success
