A few of my colleges have mid year reports due this weekend, but my guidance counselor informed me that they aren’t sure if they will be able to send our my mid year by then. What should I do? What should I say to the admissions officers? I really want to attend this school and I don’t want this to hurt my chance.
Tell them the date your mid-year report will be available.
You may even ask your counselor to write an email explaining the situation.
I’m sure the college will understand, don’t worry!
Yes (if your school doesn’t have an official report to send now) most colleges will accept an email from your GC explaining the situation and giving the college an idea of what your grades are at this point with the assumption the official report will be sent as soon as it is available. It must come from your GC though.
Don’t agree that the email has to come from your guidance counselor. Just send an email with your mid-year grades and a simple statement that your school has informed you that they will not be mailing out updated transcripts until x date. This isn’t something you are likely to lie about since it’s too easy for them to check. And the updated transcript will show up and validate the info you’ve given.
If you have any new awards and achievements to add, you can insert that information too. And if one of these schools is your first choice and they care about demonstrated interest, then you can always mention that as well. Just keep the email brief since ad coms are busy at this time of year.
Kids apply from other areas of the world where their semesters are different. Send an explanatory note. You’re not unusual.
Agree with other posts. My D applied to schools with Jan 15 scholarship deadlines. She emailed a copy of the end-of-semester grades, with a note that the official grades would be sent as soon as available. The paper transcripts were mailed out-of-state on Jan 16 and all was fine.
As an international student my final exams for fall semester were at the end of January when all the schools I applied to wanted the mid-year report submitted. All I did was call each school and explain the situation and they were super understanding! My marks will be submitted tomorrow (literally 2 weeks past the deadline) however a simple phone call solved everything, they’ll understand
Not unusual in many places. Our district has first semester exams after winter break, so end of first semester is usually later than that (this year the teacher workday to do grades was Jan 16).
