I'm already a Junior in High School and I feel that HS has been a wasted cause. As a middle school student I was a very bright girl. I got As in most of my advanced classes and excelled on tests. I was happy back then. HS is a whole other story. Nothings changed since Freshman Year. My As have turned into Bs and B-. My AP classes are filled with such intelligent students, its intimidating. I keep thinking "Whats the point on doing my best, when there are others who could pass it with 0 effort. Even though I am in AP/Honor Classes I'm still upset about it. I'm so worried about college right now because I know my 3.2 UW/3.7 weighted gpa isn't anything to brag about. My social life is almost non existent. I have no true friends, but some acquaintences. I've tried clubs and activities but not much ever comes from them. I've even attained some leadership positions (Editor of Literary Magazine, Newspaper Editor, Latin Secretary, VP of Poet Club) but even that hasn't made my social life any better. My HS life has been a complete failure in my eyes.

Your HS years are supposed to be the time where you find out about yourself, meet new people, and explore the world around you but none of these things have happened for me. I've never felt like a "teenage girl" and now that HS is almost over I worry about the future. I apologize for writing this lame sob story but I want to get my life back on track and I want to be as great as I used to be. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone had any advice.

thanks

How are you different than who you were back then?

High school is terrible, I agree. You just have to get through it, and stop expecting it to be the “best four years of your life”…it rarely is.

This happens a lot. Most people maintain straight A’s or almost straight A’s in middle school but in highschool it’s a lot harder.
I was the opposite. I was a B/C student in middle school but some very fortunate things happened to my family and now I am a pretty good student (for the moment).

In middle school, teachers are more focused on disciplining the class, as that age group is very rowdy. As such, kids who do their work and go through the motions can usually pull out an ‘A’. High school, however, is much different.

I’ll give you my favorite quote from my BFF Jake from the “Life is good” line:

Do what you love, love what you do.

Do what you want in order to make yourself happy. You’ll make friends and find people like you. All throughout the beginning of high school, I had meltdowns like yours. But now, I honestly have just stopped caring. I still do my work and stuff, but I don’t take anything so seriously. I’ve become a much calmer, chill person now.

^100% agreed.

Also, make sure that you know why you’re in it. Have a good reason behind it. Trust me, for a good reason, you will be motivated more. In Middle School, I was a pretty average A/B student, and then I realized what I really wanted to do in life and i guess I got smarter or something, but I started taking interest in school for the sake of learning and not for grades. When I did this, I am now the top of my class with straight A+s
