My horrible luck with the academy

My life and it’s involvment with the air force academy has not been very succesful to say the least. Some of you may have read something from me before and know I broke my leg last year and was turned back. Well this year I had to get my appendix out a few days into basic. Spent a week in the hospital in the springs then got out and got put back in the hospital again at fort Carson a week later on the first night of jacks from complications from my surgery. Needless to say I got sent home. Again. After being told I would be able to stay and they would work with me. But whatever. Now I have to figure everything out for myself again. This really really sucks. I was sent home with only a week of basic left.

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!

Sorry to hear that. What you plan on doing?

I was wondering what happened to you. Your situation was discussed on the Webguy forum but I never heard the final. What a bummer! I admire you for coming back this year after the leg break. The timing of the appendix was unreal. It had 12 months to erupt and picked BCT of all times.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you try to decide what direction to take. I certainly have respect for your tenacity and know it will take you far in whatever path you choose.

wmfalcon12,

You surely have been through a lot. That tenacity is what got you an appointment and then a return appointment. That same tenacity can do it again! 3rd time is a charm! If it’s your dream to be there then don’t give up on it. Take some college classes at home and re-apply. What a great story you’ll have four years later at graduation! :)

When the world says, “Give up,”
Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.”

Oh my - It has been almost a year since I have been on this forum. I just thought I would check and see how BCT went for the class of 2013. My son received his appointment to the class of 2011. He developed a systemic infection from a wound he received before he began BCT. He was turned back about half way through. Came home and did it all again the summer of 2008, was turned back again because of the same ankle. PM me if you would like someone who can completely empathize with your situation. Believe me, it may seem pretty dark right now, but it really does all work out the way it is suppose to. Looking forward to lending an ear if you need one. Hang in there.

Just an FYI…

There’s a 2LT at Columbus AFB in UPT right now…he was in the USAFA class of 2006…then '07, and then '08. Yep, just like you: turned back a couple of times.

He did 2 years in the local CC, did great academically there, and then finally got to USAFA.

And did a great job!!

He’s now “cruising” as an AFA grad and UPT student!

Flieger is right don’t give up. It seems horrible now, but the reality is you had no control over either of the turnbacks. You need to decide now whether you are going to go ROTC, OCS or AFA. Whatever is your decision don’t look back and ask what if…plow forward and believe in your decision… You know what you want, we are here to cheer you on!
