Having gone through this a couple of years ago and again this year I found that while in some cases the private schools provide more money in our situation that was not the case. It is certainly worth applying to a variety of schools but don’t get set on anything until you see the numbers. It is not always transparent. I completely agree with the recommendation to check out the SUNY schools. Their OOS costs are reasonable and merit money is available to high stat students. Also consider Temple University in Philadelphia and University of Rhode Island. Their websites will actually give you a pretty good idea of the kind pf merit money that is available to higher stat OOS students. While many Northern kids embrace the Southern schools it is not for everyone. Good to have some options closer to your neck of the woods too.
What is her major?
She is interested in Physical Therapy.
What price range are you looking for?
For physical therapy a lot of kids from PA go to St Francis University or Duquesne.
They do give merit scholarships, but the net price is probably still going to be $25,000 to $30,000.
Have you checked the price of PT program at Seton Hall (NJ)?
Thanks, we will take a look into St Francis and Duquesne but she seems to be interested in a big school experience where she thinks she might fit in better and be able to find her niche.
She may have to come back to NJ for Physical Therapy school at Seton Hall or Rutgers due to the cost of graduate OSS tution but she really wants to go out of state for undergraduate. Her mother and I both went to undergraduate school out of state and we totally understand this desire and completely support it.
Well good for her! Between SC, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Alabama she is sure to find something she likes and they seem to generous with merit also.
