i just visited cal poly SLO yesterday with my dad and i can say it was the best visits out of all. i have visited poly twice before this, but didn't actually get to see what it was like with students and tours. this time, it was awesome. a cal poly student guided us around basically the core of the campus and it was very nice. i love the environment and i can imagine myself staying there for my next 4 years. i live in bay area, so i drove there for 3 hours straight (my first time..hehe) and it was okay. but i do have to agree that i'm not exactly happy with the distance, since i can't go home often...not to mention you come all the way from NY...it's gonna be hard. well...i guess if your son likes it, fits in, and get a good education as well, i'd say he should come. he should also visit the campus too, i meant, i fell in love with the campus the FIRST time i visited it and this is my third time visiting, i loved it even more..lol. anyways, it's a good school, i chose this school over UC davis. it has its own advantages and i'm sure if you son comes here, he'll be happy as well. good luck in whatever your son decides:)

I'm curious about the SLO scholarship...what scholarship does SLO offer to out-of-state students?

cal poly is a choice for many top ca students (even over schools like uc berkeley!): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=45230

In that case, let Frank go to Cali! :)

I am good friends with your son and I too will be heading out to the other coast this fall (although not to SLO, USC here).

SLO has an awesome program. And if you can afford the costs of the education, choosing a place where he really wants to be is usually the best decision.
