I am recently trying to apply for FAFSA, but before I do I have to create a FSA ID. I encountered a problem when I had to enter my last name. It is longer by two letters than what they allow in the data field. My question is, will I have problems receiving or confirming my identity when trying to get financial help? Please help me, it is urgent. Thank you in advance.
Did it accept your attempt? If not it should have sent you a notice immediately.
But if I entered my last name I have no way of confirming that it is me. My I.D and S.S have my full name. Does it matter?
Of course it will accept it. If my last name was Abcdefghijk and it only let me put in Abcdefghi, how would the computer have any idea my last name isn’t actually the latter?
There must be a help section and presumably a phone number to call. Check the web site for either an email form to fill out for help or that phone number. I am kind of surprised, your last name isn’t THAT long. I edited your post, btw. You really don’t want to be giving out your identity on the internet like that.
Im sure I double checked that my name would fit onto the box provided, but it didnt. I Will checked with them and thank you for the feedback.
But if the FSA ID doesn’t match, or if it does, it will tell you right away. There might be enough of your last name, with the SSN and birth date, for the match. If not, it will come back ‘no match’ immediately and then you have to wait 3 days to try again.
It is not looking for what your name actually is, but what is in the SSA records. My daughter has 2 first names, a middle name, and a last name. It does allow her two first names (total 8 letters and a space) but doesn’t allow her middle name. Still matched. If the computer has 14 spaces to match, and your application matches the 14 spaces, the ssn, the dob, I suspect you’d have a match
