My math score is lower than my English score. How problematic is this?

I have recently completed a PSAT on the princton review website. My score for the math section was a WHOPPING 550 and my English score was just a 730. I’m hoping to be a communications major and I’m not sure how my math score will hold up when compared to my English score in the application process. Since I want to be a communications major, how much does my math score matter?

Many communications schools have competitive admissions, with notably higher standardized test scores. So you want your scores to be as high as possible. Assuming that PR is an accurate prep program for the new SAT, you have room for improvement in the math component so should start there.

Is a 730 bad for the CR SAT? You say “just a 730”. I would wait to judge until you take the actual test.

the good news is that it’s a heck of a lot harder to get a 730 in EBRW than it is in Math. So yes, some work on the Math portion and you could see yourself easily over 1400.

As counterintuitive as this may sound, that’s actually quite good. Your mathematics score will go up! It’s definitely possible to go from a 550 to a 750+.

Judging by the fact that this is a PSAT, you have at least a few months to practice before your first SAT. I strongly recommend creating a Khan Academy account (if you don’t have one already) and doing a lot of practice! Space yourself out accordingly, and try to get to skill level 4 in everything!!

Make sure you stay devoted to your mission, 750+ on math.

Once you achieve this, focus on grammar. (Use Khan Academy to help with that as well.)

Good luck!!

I strongly recommend Khan Academy!! I’ve never been a math person, i got a 450 the first time I took a practice test sophomore year. I got a 740 on my math section junior year. I would spend hours at a time on khan academy. when you first get an account, take their practice test #1 so you can go back and evaluate your weaknesses. Then, i practiced using the barons book and the PWN book, which is more for 650+.

Try the practice tests over and over! Khan Academy helps too. God bless super scoring
