My non-composite scores range from 21-36 help

<p>Okay, I just took the ACT for the first time, I am a Junior. I have mixed feelings about my test. </p>

<p>E - 21
M - 25
R - 36
S - 33</p>

<p>Composite 29. now I'm thrilled with a 29 but It's going to look pretty darn bad that I've got a 21 in English huh? I think I can pull my math up as I'm in AP physics and Geometry this semester. (Yea I know, I'm way behind in math..) </p>

<p>I'm destined to study humanities in college, but how should I get up my English score? My school has a very poor English department. </p>

<p>Basically I'm asking how can I improve my English score, I've already used the Red book and Barrons ACT prep. </p>

<p>Im not saying to use pr book, but for the english section, i read through the review chapter, made careful note of the question types and patterns, and did some practice
sections. english is about recognizing the various grammar and rhetoric questions they use.</p>

<p>I was in a similar situation. I was in the 24 English range and finally got a 29 in October. Practice tests will definitely be your best bet. Get familiar with the types of questions the ACT asks and you will eventually notice a pattern. English I am told is the easiest to get up since it is straight forward just learning the rules. With a 21 you are obviously missing some grammatical and punctuation questions wrong. So again, take some practice tests, see what your getting wrong and learn from your mistakes. Good luck!</p>

<p>The first time i took the ACT i got a 23 in English, and then the last two times I took it I got 34’s. So there is definitely hope! I used Princeton’s Review for english and also practice tests really help you see what you need to work on</p>

<p>Thanks guys! It looks like I’ll be getting PR for ACT’s! Also I’ll brush up on my grammar :/. Fun stuff. Zeek32ball you gave me a lot of hope :)! </p>

<p>I got an 11 on my essay, I feel like this is a slap [to the ACT Plus writing] on the face because I got a twenty-one on the English portion haha. </p>
