I noticed as time goes by my parents are getting nicer and are more like friends to me. Like when I say I'm going out they don't give me a curfew just tell me to call when I'm coming home. If I get in trouble they lecture me and do nothing. When I was younger they were strict, but now their so nice. Maybe it was because when I was a child I was a pain, but now I'm the opposite and way more mature. Anyone else parents got nicer, or meaner?

i dunno, lol

Same here…my parents are still stricter than most (when I go out to a party or with friends, I have to ‘space’ everything out and not have back-to-back social events so I won’t have ‘too much fun’ and get distracted from school or whatever), but generally they leave me alone now. They used to come into my room while I was on the computer and freak out if they saw me typing (“Who are you talking to??”) and they bug me less about grades now that I’m in AP classes…my aunt’s the exact opposite, though; she’s putting more and more pressure on my cousin (a year younger than me) on tests (particularly the SAT) and school. (We’re Asian, if that makes a difference.)

cool story

cause they gave up on you lol

same here. my parents used to be so old school. no cable tv, had to “register” playdates a month in advance… the works. now i come home at 1 am and they dont care, as long as i continue to get good grades.

w000t for freedom!

^ 1am, you da man haha

My parents don’t really care about how late or what I’m doing as much as they care about who I’m with.

I came home wasted one night last year (the first time I’d ever done that) and now my mom won’t let me out after, like, 10pm. Greeeat. She’s generally pretty permissive about going out during the day though.

^^ Hah! I’ve never had cable, but more because we’re all too lazy to get it than because my parents didn’t want me to watch it.

porkperson nailed it :D

My mom keeps me on a leash and freaks out over the possibility of me getting into a car with my best guy friends (who I’d never dream of doing anything with), yet she can’t tell when I show up home drunk on a Saturday night. Good stuff.

I have really strict, obnoxious, annoying parents, and as I’ve gotten older, they’ve just gotten more and more paranoid even though I’m really not a bad kid at all. I’ve learned tricks and ways around it, but I’m still so glad to get away from it all. 20 more days till I can do whatever the **** I want and not have to worry about their ****.

I could write a whole novel on all the crap they’ve given me over the past 18 years.

^ Not even. Maybe once every couple of weeks.

My parents are really chill now. They used to always be on my case about academics and staying away from the wrong crowd and preparing for a successful future and stuff. But now they’re like, “Alright, have fun and call us when you get there.”

They were even okay with me going to CA with some friends for a week. As long as they know who I’m going out with, where I’ll be, and when I’ll be home, I’ll be fine. I think my parents might suspect that I drink, but they still let me out for late-night parties so long as I sleep over (I technically have a curfew of 2am, but that’s probably more because they think I might be too tired or wasted to drive home safely).

My parents are still ****s. Although not the typical academic helicopter parents, they’re ****s in their own special way.
