@intparent Thank you, that’s such an amazing idea! I think I’ll ask my uncle to get together with my parents and me as soon as he can. I’ve been working for the last four years and saved a couple thousand dollars for flights and other expenses that colleges usually don’t cover, in addition to a couple of small local scholarships. I really want to go to college so I’ve been trying to do everything I can to prepare.
@jnkam24 I emailed my admissions counselor, but it seems like MIT is the most realistic option. I’m not going to complain because I know that there are tons of people all over the world who would feel really lucky to get into MIT, and I’ve been lucky enough to be given that. That you so much for your support
It’s a real tragedy that you have such manipulative parents. I feel for you. On the bright side, you did get into one of the best schools in the world. This is Duke’s loss as much as it is yours! Talk to the admissions office. Say that you’ve received an offer from MIT but that you’d rather attend Duke. I think there is a nontrivial chance they will admit you. It’s unlikely but it’s not impossible.
I think that there’s a very good chance you’ll fall in love with MIT and the Boston area. If not, you can apply to transfer to Duke toward the end of your freshman year. Exhaust your possibilities now though with Duke as NerdyChica suggests, then turn your attention to MIT. I grew up in the Boston area and it’s a wonderful city. Cambridge is lovely. Harvard Square, Fanueil Hall Marketplace, the T, THE FOOD. lol can you tell I miss it? I live in North Carolina now and Iived in San Diego for over 20 years, but Boston will always have a special place in my heart. Sorry for your family drama but I think your parents will come around. I have old fashioned values too but I would be incredibly proud of my daughter attending MIT.
